Apuntes históricos de la Literatura Universal y su vinculación social con estudiantes de estomatología / Historical notes of the Universal Literature and its social relationships with Orthodontics' students

El cuerpo humano y, en especial, el rostro, ha sido objeto de tratamiento en las más diversas formas de expresión artística, como pueden ser la pintura, la escultura y la Literatura; acercarnos a esta última puede resultar sumamente interesante, por lo que de ella podemos aprender. De ahí el objetivo que de este trabajo es identificar los textos de la literatura universal que se han enfocado en aspectos relacionados con estructuras anatómicas del complejo bucal y ofrecen pasajes que contribuyen a la formación del valor social y las posibilidades que ofrece para el desarrollo del componente cultural e histórico del Estomatólogo General (AU).

Human body, specially the face, has been treated in the most different forms of artistic expression, as it is the case of painting, sculpture and literature. An approach to the last ones may be extremely interesting, because of the learning and experiences accumulated in them. The objective of this term is identifying the works of universal literature dealing with aspects of the oral complex anatomical structures, offering passages that contribute to the formation of social values and having possibilities for the development of the historical and cultural component of the General Dentist (AU).

Dr. Oscar Luis Amoedo y Valdez: aportes a la Odontología / Dr. Oscar Luis Amoedo y Valdez: contributions to Dentistry

Una de las provincias que más ha contribuido al desarrollo de la ciencia es sin duda alguna Matanzas. Muchos de sus hijos han sido glorias científicas reconocidas universalmente, entre ellos el Dr. Oscar Luís Amoedo y Valdez, (1863-945). Catedrático, escritor, erudito, políglota, investigador, inventor, precursor y creador de la Odontología Legal , ciencia a la que brindó incontables aportes, como su magistral obra El arte dentario en Medicina Legal. Fue miembro de casi todas las Sociedades Médico-Dentales y Académicas Científicas del mundo. Por sus méritos recibió numerosos premios y condecoraciones, que lo llevaron a ser reconocido como el primero de los dentistas cubanos.

Matanzas is, without any doubt, one of the provinces that more contributions has made to the development of the science. Many of the persons born in this province have being universally recognized scientific glories, among them, Dr. Oscar Luis Amoedo y Valdez, (1863–1945), university professor, writer, polyglot, investigator, inventor, precursor and creator of the Legal Dentistry, science to which he made uncountable contributions, like his magisterial work “Dental art in Legal Medicine”. He was member of almost all the Medico-Dental Societies and Scientific Academies of the world; in recognition of his merits he received many prizes and decorations, leading him to be recognized as “the first one of the Cuban dentists”.
