Résumé
Bidirectional Doppler ultrasonography was used in the present study in 40 patients with primary varicoceles and 10 control cases. It was found to be a sensitive non invasive method to diagnose the various degrees of primary varicoceles and to detect subclinical cases [4 cases]. These latter patients showed: retrograde venous reflux, abnormal spermogram but no palpable varicoceles. The grading of varicoceles, by studying the velocity wave form pattern and the identification of the group of venous plexus affected as well as the type of varicocele were all possible using Doppler ultrasonography. Post operative Doppler examination revealed the presence of persistant venous reflux in 4 cases [10%] with no palpable varicocele. Doppler ultrasonography has thus proved accurate in detecting subclinical varicoceles and in assessing the adequacy of varicocele management

Thirty cases of incisional hernias with large fascial defects were repaired with mersilene mesh as "in-lay graft" to bridge the defect. Two cases showed postoperative wound infection, which has been controlled without any further complications. Follow up for one year showed only one case of recurrence [3.3%]. The results of this work showed that mersilene mesh can be used safely and effectively in the repair of large incisional hernias

Two years admission for patients with thyroid gland disease have been examined. From a total of 592 patients; 415 cases [70.1%] were simple goitre, 49 cases [8.3%] hyperfunctioning goitre, 22 cases [3.7%] thyroiditis, 67 cases [11.3%] benign neoplastic adenomas, and 39 cases [6.6%] were malignant goiter. In the present work an accurate preoperative diagnosis was achieved in 425 cases only with a clinical diagnostic accuracy of 71.79%. Post-operative histological examination of thyroid specimens was mandatory to reach a final diagnosis and to correct the high failure rate of clinical diagnosis
