Résumé

The red-striped soft scale insect, [R.S.S.S] Pulvinaria tenuivalvata attacking sugar-cane at Attfieh region, Giza Governorate is recently considered an important economic insect pest of sugar-cane in Egypt. Laboratory evaluation of different extracts of the spicked centaury, Centaurium spicatum on the biological aspects of P. tenuivalvata was studied. Petroleum ether extract proved the most effective extract on all insect stages. The impact of the most effective extract, mineral oil, and biocide on the biological aspects of P. tenuivalvata under laboratory and field conditions was studied. The tested compounds are effective against soft scale insect, P. tenuivalvata on sugar-cane leaves and they increased sugar-cane yield significantly, at Attfieh region

Résumé

Effect of five host plants on different biological aspects of the red striped-soft scale, Pulvinaria tenuivalvata [Newstead] was studied. The percentage of nymphs that succeeded to reach the adult stage differed on the different host plants. This percentage was maximum on sugar-cane and sweet sorghum followed by cogon grass, while the minimum was on maize. The shortest pre-oviposition period of the insects was recorded on sugar-cane and elephant grass plants, while the oviposition period was about twice greater on sugar-cane than on sweet sorghum. No significant difference existed between the oviposition period on sweet sorghum and maize. The maximum number of eggs was found on sugar-cane, but the minimum number was found on maize and sweet sorghum. Adult longevity on sugar-cane was about twice greater than that on maize, while it was one and half that on elephant grass. Thus, sugar-cane plant was more preferable to the insect than all other tested host plants

Résumé

Pyracantha fortuneana [Rosacea] was investigated chemically and biologicallyto evaluate its insecticidal activity as a protectant against two weevils;namely, Sitophilus oryzae L. and Sitophilus granarius L. Petroleum etherextract of the fruits was found to be the most effective, from whichbeta-amyrin, 24-dihydrolanosterol [24-methylene-5 alpha-lanost-8-en-3beta-ol, stigmasterol, beta-sitosterol, erythrodiol and ursolic acid wereisolated and identified. Biologically, the fruit extract was more effectivethan that of leaves. The percent mortality was directly proportional to theconcentrations used. The extracts showed a very weak repellent effect on theweevils. The bioresidual effect of the petroleum ether extract lasted for sixmonths, and decreased by storage periods. It provided satisfactory protectionto stored wheat grains against damage and weight loss. Seed viability washigher when using higher extract concentrations

Résumé

Nutritional knowledge of preschool professionals graduating from Kuwait College was assessed. They included kindergarten [KG] teachers, physicians, nurses, dietitians and dental hygienists. Assessment was made by quantitative qualitative analysis of the curricula: the assessment was achieved through enumeration of the specialized nutrition course[s] in each program and the qualitative assessment was achieved by an index [curriculum nutrition content index] which measured the percentage of credits allocated to specialized compulsory nutrition courses of overall credits required for graduation. The analysis showed that the nutrition content of most programs is either inadequate or is provided in elective courses. In the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training curricula, the KG program has least nutrition content and Nutrition program has the most

Résumé

The effect of some food flavours and biological parameters was investigated, flavours used were [orange, chocolate, and strawberry]. The result, showed that there was a reduction in the nutritional parameters in general compared with control. The reduction ranged between [2-25%] for food consumption. [2-37%] gain in wt, [12-26%] for PER, [2-3%] for DC, [2-24%] for NPU and [23-31%] for BV. All the values were relative to standard group. Also there was a reduction in the relative value of liver wt/body wt ratio [29-34%]. On the other hand it could be observed an increase in% Hb and Hct in all groups of rats and also in food consumption of orange group equal to [11%]

Résumé

The effect of addition of different food stuff colourants [Chocolate Brown, Tartrazine and Raspberry] to Casein diet of rats was studied. The results showed that all nutritional parameters in rats fed coloured diet were reduced compared with rats fed standard diet in general. The reduction values were about 25% in food consumption [36-50%] in gain in body wt, [16-34%] in PER, [10-12%] in DC, [7-14%] in NPU and [1.5-6%] in BV. that were relative to standard group. Also there was a reduction in the values of the ratio liver wt/body/wt as% relative to the standard group and the reduction ranged between [28-34%]. On the other hand there was slight increase in the percent relative value of BV of Tartrazine about 3% and there were quite increase in the percent relative value of Hb and Hct observed for different colorants

Résumé

A RAPID and reliable method is given for the determination of vanadium based on oxidation of the V [IV] with a known excess of bromate to V[V]. The unreacted oxidant as well as V[V] are subsequently reduced with sulphurous acid to V [IV]. The resulting Br was potentiometrically titrated with Hg [I] using silver amalgam as the indicator electrode. The method finds application to the analysis of some binary and ternary mixtures
