Résumé

Although there are many reports of concomitant urinary and reproductive system malformations, a review of the literature shows these unique associations in a single patient are extremely rare. We report here on a case of unilateral partial duplicated vaginal ectopic ureter with ipsilateral dysplastic kidney and uterine didelphys in an 11 years old female patient who has suffered from persistent urinary incontinence since birth. The embryological aspects as well as the clinical presentation, diagnostic approach and treatment applicable for this group of patients are discussed.

Résumé

OBJECTIVE: To determine of the effectiveness of uterine arterial embolization as a primary therapy in the management of symptomatic leiomyomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Uterine arterial embolization was performed in 23 patients (age range, 27-50 years) who complaint menorrhagia, bulk-related symptoms(frequency of urination, sensation of pressure, sensation of mass), or both, with leiomyomas. The effectiveness of the therapy was evaluated in the view of symptomatic relief and the patients' acceptance with ultrasonography, 3 months later. RESULTS: Sixteen (89%) of 18 patients reported marked improvement in their abnormal bleeding. Ten (90%) of 11 patients with bulk-related symptoms reported marked improvement in these symptoms. Follow-up ultrasonographic examination showed a mean 21% reduction in uterine size and mean 39% reduction in leiomyoma size. CONCLUSION: Utrine arterial embolization is an effective therapy in the management of symptomatic leiomyomas and may prove to be a valuable alternative to myomectomy, hysterectomy, or other surgical procedures.

Résumé

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to evaluate the demand for lumbosacral corset and to get a base line data for rehabilitation approach, management trends, demand for education of back pain, and incidence of back pain during pregnancy in Korean population. METHOD: One hundred and fifty two postpartum women were included in this study. Each subject's demographic data, gynecologic data, back pain associated factors, and neonatal factors were collected. RESULTS: The incidence of back pain during pregnancy was 81%. Average age of back pain group and pain free group were 29.8+/-4.51 and 26.8+/-5.50, respectively. Average age of back pain group was significantly older than pain free group. Patients with previous back pain suffered from back pain during pregnancy more frequently than the patients without previous back pain. Sites of back pain were lumbar area (49.2%), midback area (29.5%), and sacroiliac area (21.3%). CONCLUSION: Correlation factors of back pain during pregnancy were maternal age, previous history of back pain, and history of back pain during menstruation. Long term follow up study for back pain after delivery and early evaluation of back pain during antenatal care are recommended.

Résumé

A complete hydatidiform mole coexisting with a fetus is a rare condition, particularly when diagnosed after IVF-ET. In spite of the wide spread use of assisted reproductive technology, there have been, to our knowledge, only few reported cases of molar pregnancy after IVF-ET. At present, there are limited data to guide the antenatal management of a complete hydatidiform mole coexisting with fetuses. A complete mole can coexist with a normal, healthy fetus who can be carried to term, with good outcome. But, patients who desire to continue the pregnancy after such a diagnosis must be cautioned about the potential for severe medical complications and developing persistent gestational trophoblastic tumor. We report here a case of complete hydatidiform mole in a triplet pregnancy coexistent with two live fetuses following in IVF-ET.
