Résumé

This comparative study aimed to investigate the effect of exposure to sewer environment on health status of sewermen [n = 87] compared with street cleaning workers [n = 91]. Sewermen were found to have significantly more skin and kidney complaints than street cleaning workers. In addition, they had lower systolic blood pressure than the latter group. No difference was found between both groups as regards the Zung scale for depression, while sewermen showed significantly less mean anxiety score than the other group

Résumé

200 patients presenting with eye injuries [El] at outpatient ophthalmic clinic of Al-Zahraa [A1-Azhar University Hospital] were interviewed to identify some of the possible epidemiological aspects that may be related to eye injuries. The results revealed that: the majority of El occurred during out door activities [work 30.5%, public activities 27.5% school 17.5%, and shooting 7.5%], males were more affected [74%] than females [26%], the majority of El [47%] occurred as a result of negligence, responsible for 54.5% where 84.9% of them occurred in extrreme degrees of temperature, past history of El was also presented among 11% of patients and only 3% were unable to continue their previous work

Résumé

A case control study was directed to determine some risk factors related to cataract. The sample size was 1060 subjects and 600 were controls. They were nearly matched in age and sex. The sample was taken from Al-Azhar university hospitals. Malnutrition, diabetes, myopia since childhood, glaucoma medically controlled, glaucoma with surgical intervention, outdoor working, peripheral neuropathy, head injuries and severe diarrhoea were identified as risk factors for cataract. Many recommendations were suggested aiming to restore the eye of cataractous patients from blinding

Résumé

A cross sectional study was conducted to investigate the relative importance of knee injury compared with obesity and sex difference in association with unilateral and bilateral osteoarthritis of the knee. The study included 212 patients suffering from osteoarthritis and attending the orthopedic outpatient clinic of El-Zahraa Hospital. The results revealed that the occurrence of bilateral osteoarthritis was more frequent than unilateral one. Bilateral osteoarthritis was strongly associated with obesity than with history of knee injury, and the reverse was observed as regard to unilateral osteoarthritis which was found to be more prevalent with patients giving history of knee injury than with obese ones. The regular exercise programs, weights control, and avoiding injury were the important recommendations

Résumé

This study was conducted in Abdel Samad Village, Embaba, Giza Governorate to compare Psychological and Obstetric complications in women below and above 20 years of age. The sample included all pregnant women, women found in this village between May 1991 till April 1992. The total sample size was 97 women [45 below 20 years and 52 aged from 20-30 years]. Three visite were conducted for every pregnant mother to fulfill a specially designed questionnaire. The results revealed that young mothers [below 20 years] have more psychological and obstetric problems. Anaemia and albuminuria were obviously higher in the group. The incidence of neonatal mortality and morbidity were also in younger women. Some recommendations can be adopted to minimize these complications

Résumé

This study was carried out at Babil Primary Schools. The target sample was composed of 800 males and 600 females. Their ages ranged from 6-12 years. The results showed that 25.5% of total sample were suffering from parasitism. The most prevalent parasites were Schistosoma hematobium [10.1%], followed by Ascaris lumbricoides [6.9%]. Schistosoma mansoni [4.5%] Enterobius vermicularis [3.3%], the last parasite detected was Hymenolepis nana [2.4%]. It was observed that there is a significant difference between infection rate among high and low social classes also between infected and non infected groups regarding to personal habits and environmental conditions. Evaluation of the nutritional status of the children cleared that there is observable growth retardation among the infected group. Socio-economic development, environmental sanitation, health education, active participation of school authorities for early diagnosis and treatment of parasitism are highly recommended

Résumé

Health education program was conducted at primary school children in fourth, fifth and sixth educational grades at two rural areas at Menoufia govrnorate. The main aim was to assess the health education program which was held to enlight school children by basic knowledge of environmental sanitation and to offer them opportunity to implement such knowledge in real life. Two hundreds and thirty children were randomly ehosea for this aim. Also 46 mothers [20%] of the sampled children were interviewed to identify their opinion in the program and its effect on their children's behaviour. Health education program was conducted in summer club period from May to August [1988], and was an effective way to children for changing their nad health Habits related to environmental sanitation and in dissimination of Health knowledge to other members
