Résumé

The present study was conducted to ascertain the estrogenic effect of Zhuang Medicated Thread Moxibustion (ZMTM) and explore its time - sensitive impact on estradiol (E2) in female perimenopausal rats. 40 female rats were randomized into four gr oups: the control, model, ZMTM, and acupuncture groups. The perimenopausal syndrome was induced in the last three groups with a daily subcutaneous dose of 80 mg/kg of 4 - vinylcyclohexene diepoxide for 15 days. Afterward, rats in the model and control group s were fed routinely, while rats in the ZMTM and acupuncture groups were treated with six ZMTM and acupuncture courses, respectively. Results of the study suggested that following the six courses of treatment, the E2 level in the model group was significan tly the lowest, while the regular group was the highest (P < 0.05). There was also a gradual increase in the E2 level of the ZMTM group compared to the model and acupuncture groups, e.g. after the 5th and 6th courses of treatment, their E2 level was signif icantly higher than the model and acupuncture groups. The ZMTM group was better than the model and acupuncture groups. In summary, ZMTM can improve perimenopausal induced rats' estrogen level.

@#Periodontitis is a common infectious disease that is harmful to human oral health and is the main cause of tooth loss. Periodontal inflammation can damage the integrity of the epithelium, causing periodontal pathogens to spread to the systemic circulation, and the periodontal pocket contains a large number of inflammatory mediators, especially those related to chronic inflammation, such as tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukins and prostaglandins, which will enter the blood circulation system from periodontal pocket and cause systemic inflammatory response. Periodontitis is closely related to the occurrence and development of systemic diseases, including cardiovascular, endocrine, respiratory, immune, and nervous systems. Inflammatory responses and inflammatory factors may be the mechanism of the association between periodontitis and multiple systemic diseases. This article reviews the current research on the relationship between periodontitis and systemic disease.

Résumé

OBJECTIVETo investigate the potential role of preoperative adjuvant chemotherapy on early stage cervical squamous carcinoma with bulky tumor.

METHODSOne hundred and forty-five patients with cervical squamous cancer stages Ib-IIa were investigated, among which 17 patients with bulky tumors (> or = 4 cm) were managed by cisplatin-based chemotherapy for 1-2 courses followed by radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy (BC group). The change of tumor size, pelvic lymph nodes metastasis, cervical wall invasion, the involvement of surgical specimen margin, and the blood loss during operation were assessed after operation and compared with those in 51 patients with bulky tumors (BN group) and 77 patients with small local tumors (S group) who underwent surgery directly.

RESULTS(1) The tumor size of 17 patients in BC group were decreased in various degrees after chemotherapy, with 13 patients of clinical effectiveness (76.47%). And the responsiveness pertained to neither histological differentiation nor size of local tumors. (2) Post-operative histology has showed that patients in BC and BN group have higher incidence of lymph node metastasis and deep cervical infiltration (5/68 and 3/68, respectively) than in S group (1/77 and 1/77, respectively) while with no statistical significance. (3) Blood loss during operation in BC group was less than BN and S group. (4) Seventeen patients, including those underwent surgeries of vaginal prolongation and/or ovarian transposition, appeared disease-free survival within the follow-up time.

CONCLUSIONSMost of patients with bulky early stage cervical squamous carcinoma are sensitive to cisplatin-based chemotherapy, which could greatly reduce local tumor size and in turn facilitate the following operation by well controlling blood loss.

Résumé

Objective To describe the genetic epidemiologic features of alopecia areata (AA) patients in China and to presume the possible genetic mo del of AA.Methods A case-controlled study of 1032 AA patients was performed to analyze the effect of genetic factors on the liability to AA.Complex segreg ation and heritability analysis were performed using Falconer's method and SAGE-REGTL programs. Results The mean age of onset was 28.98 ? 13.43 years. The d ifference in the mean age of onset was not significant between males and females.A total of 82.6 percent of patients experienced their first episode of AA befo re the fourth decades of life.A positive family history of AA was obtained in 8 7 patients (8.43%).The prevalences of AA were 1.58%,0.19% and 0.03% in the firs t-,second-and third-degree relatives of the probands respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the controls(P
