RÉSUMÉ

Thirty male albino rats were used in this study to investigate and explore the malignant changes occurring in the floor of the mouth. The histological and histochemical results showed that developing carcinoma was of poorly differentiated type in most cases, in addition SEM examination of the surface [20 weeks after scratching] showed definite surface changes in the experimental group [painted with DMBA]

RÉSUMÉ

The aim of this investigation was to investigate the teratogenic effect of the well known anticoagulant "warfarin" rodenticide on developing structures in albino rat. Twenty female rats provided to be pregnant and within the period of 7-12 days of organogenesis were divided into two groups, each composed of 10 animals. The first group was left without treatment as untreated control. The second group was given warfarin sodium salt dissolved in tap water at the dose of 0.24 mg per kg body weight, using a stomach tube. The used dose was calculated as 1/10 of the experimental LD 50 and did not result in any toxic symptoms on the pregnant females. At the 20th day, all rats were sacrificed, the uteri were dissected out and foetuses were separated. Each uterus was examined macroscopically. Foetuses obtained from Warfarin treated female rats had smaller head size than those of the control group. In the specimens of Warfarin treated group, failure of fusion between the two palatine processes themselves and with the nasal septum can be seen easily. Epithelium covering the palatine process can be traced continuously from the oral side to the nasal side, whereas the nasal septum covered with its nasal epithelium appeared in between the two palatine processes

RÉSUMÉ

A histological and histochemical study of operculum tissue in relation to the oral mucosa was performed. 10 patients were studied by removal of pericoronal tissue for histological and histochemical findings. Histologically: some showed orthokeratinization others showed parakeratotic epithelium and lining epithelium. Epithelial hyperplasia was evident in some areas of every examined specimen. Histochemically: Collagen fibers were shown in the sub-mucosa in all cases. Glycogen: There was a corelation between the distribution of glycogen and the hyperplasia of epithelial cell layers. There was no relation between the distribution of glycogen and the presence of the inflammatory cells
