This study reported the results of a series of 17 patients presented with complete prolapse of the rectum over a period of 3 years. 9 males and 8 females patients with an age range of 23-72 years were operated upon by posterior abdominal rectopexy using Marlex mesh. There have been no operative mortality and no serious morbidity. One patient developed a mucosal prolapse on straining and was treated by injection. Of the 11 patients that were initially incontinent, 8 patients showed marked improvement and 3 patients remained incontinent. Abdominal rectopexy using Marlex mesh as done in this series of patients is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of complete rectal prolapse

Laparoscopic appendectomy was established as a reasonable alternative to routine surgery in the treatment of acute appendicitis between March 1995 and April 1997. 60 patients with acute appendicitis were subjected to laparoscopic appendectomy. The operation was successful in 53 patients, while 7 cases had to be converted to open appendectomy. There was no mortality or serious morbidity in this series of patients. With the development of the experience the procedure is easy and safe and is an applicable alternative to the routine open surgery
