Résumé

Dengue fever is a major infection in the world which geographically expanded. The disease is caused by dengue virus that transfers by Aedes mosquito mainly Ae. aegypti. It is endemic in Saudi Arabia and several outbreaks were reported. The virus primary affects different age groups. Dengue virus can cause classic dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. This study reviewed the clinical pictures, laboratory results and outcome of

DF in adults and pediatrics. The retrospective descriptive study included 274 DF patients was conducted at Andalusia Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia over one year. Demographic data, clinical spectrum and laboratory investigations were recorded. The results showed that pediatrics were 45/274 [16.4%], while adults were 229 [83.6%], males were more dominant than females [30 or 66.7% and 169 or 73.8%] in pediatrics and adults respectively. Headache myalgia, and retro-orbital pain were the main clinical pictures in adults [p<0.05], while vomiting and diarrhea were prevalent in pediatrics [p<0.05]. Anemia, thrombocytopenia and elevated liver enzymes were significantly higher in adults than pediatrics [p<0.05]. Hospital stay and severe DF [DHF and DSS] were significantly higher in adults than pediatrics [p<0.05]

Résumé

One of the most prominent sequelae of severe form of early childhood caries is the mutilation of primary anterior teeth. Restoration of these teeth presents a challenge to the pediatric dentist. Restoration of these teeth usually involves pulpectomy followed by restoration of the coronal portion of the tooth by composite restoration. Different treatment modalities were tested in this study to compare the shear bond strength of such modalities. Sixty bovine primary anterior teeth were used in this study divided into six equal groups. These groups were classified according to the preparation and restoration following the loot canal treatment into Composite core group [gp I]. Composite with undercut [gp II], wire with undercut [pg III]. wire group [gp IV], polycarbonate post [gp V], fiber post [gp VI]. Groups were subjected to shear strength test by beam compression technique. Results showed that statistically there was no significant difference between different groups but the wire with undercut [gp III] showed the highest mean shear bond strength values, and gave a high percentage difference when compared with other groups, this was followed by composite with undercut group [81.83%], wire group [74.33%], composite core group [65.92%], polycarbonate post [61.35%], and lastly fiber post group [59.62%]

Résumé

This study was done on thirty-three male diabetic patients and ten normal controls. Fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high- density lipoprotein-cholesterol [HDL-ch], low-density lipoprotein- cholesterol [LDL-ch], triglycerides, phospholipids and total lipids were tested. Samples were taken from diabetics and controls while fasting and every two hours after intake of standard fatty meal for a total of eight hours postprandial. The observed data in the diabetic group showed higher fasting blood glucose and LDL-ch, but lower HDL-ch levels compared with controls. Fasting serum triglycerides, phospholipids as well as total cholesterol were similar in both groups. After a test meal, changes showed a delayed rise of plasma triglycerides and phospholipids with a concomitant slow clearance rate as compared with controls

Résumé

The serum antioxidant, ceruloplasmin and transferrin were estimated in forty diabetic patients that either suffer only from hyperglycemia [n = 20] or from hyperglycemia and late diabetic complications [n = 20]. Glycohemoglobin percentage was determined to test the degree of control of diabetic state. It was found that serum ceruloplasmin was significantly higher in diabetics with late complications than in diabetic without it. On the other hand, serum transferrin was significantly lower in diabetic with late complications than in diabetic without. Glycohemoglobin percentage was comparable in both groups of patients although it was still higher than that recommended percentage for good controlled diabetes
