Résumé

Thrombolytic therapy is the modality of choice for the treatment of life threatening thrombosis in various vascular territories and nowadays, is used extensively in setting of acute myocardial infarction. There is, however, the omnipresent danger of serious bleeding inherently associated with the use of all thrombolytics which if it occurs in the brain, can lead to potentially serious neurological impairment and even death. In our report, we describe the successful surgical management of a streptokinase-induced intracranial hemorrhage. Timely neurosurgical intervention is advocated as the optimal approach for this particular side effect of thrombolytic agents

Résumé

Plasma vesopressin levels have been shown to fluctuate through out the rat oestrus cycle and following ovariectomy. To determine how these fluctuations in vesopressin are related to fluid regulations during the rat oestrus cycle. Studies have been carried out in cycling females rats using a specific inhibitor of Ornithine Decarboxylase [ODC], Di-fluoro-methyl Ornithine [DFMO 20 mg/100g body weight], the animals were housed in individual metabolism cages under 12 hours light/12 hour dark regimen with free access to food and water. Urine samples were collected to determine the osmolality and sodium concentration at 8.00 and 17.00-18.00 hours. The results of this study indicate a significant decrease in urine osmolality and sodium retention in the cycling pro-oestrus rats treated with DFMO as compared to the controls. The result of this study indicates that cause of fluid retention in the cycling rats during pro-oestrus may be the oestradiol dependent increased levels of vesopressin and the increase in the ODC activity in the Magno-cellular neurons is the part of mechanism underlying the oestradiol induced Vesopressin release

Résumé

Clinical and radiological features of 43 patients admitted for ganglionic [21] and thalamic [22] haemorrhages were studied to ascertain the factors that would determine prognosis in the acute stage of the illness. Nineteen patients died, 16 of them in the first week. The adverse clinical factors were an altered state of consciousness, decorticate/decerebrate posturing, ataxic respiration, abnormalities of gaze and presence of bilateral Babinski's sign. Adverse radiological factors were the presence of thalamic haemorrhage of 3 cm or more, intraventricular spread of the haemorrhage and midline shift of 0.5 cm of more. The significance of these findings is discussed

Résumé

Cardiac ventricular aneurysms are by large ischaemic and tend to develop following a transmural myocardial infarction. In the minority of cases, the cause may be congenital, infective, traumatic or idiopathic. While postinfarction ventricular aneurysms and those which follow cardiac surgery are common, traumatic aneurysms after accidental trauma are rare. We report a case of a true left ventricular aneurysm caused by a bullet injury
