Résumé

Odontogenic tumors comprise a complex group of lesions of diverse histopathological types and clinical behavior. The group of mixed odontogenic tumors, which are also rare, is composed of proliferating odontogenic epithelium in a cellular ectomesenchyme resembling dental papilla. Ameloblastic fibrodentinoma is a rare benign odontogenic tumor. The present case report discusses this tumor composed of odontogenic epithelium and odontogenic mesenchyme with dentin or dentin like tissue. The present paper also throws light on various histological similarities and complexities which make the interpretation of these set of odontogenic tumors a diagnostic dilemma.

Résumé

Enterocutaneous fistula [ECF] is a difficult condition managed in the surgical wards and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Sepsis, malnutrition, and electrolyte abnormality is the classical triad of complications of ECF. Sepsis with malnutrition is the leading cause of death in cases of ECF. Although it is a common condition, no recent report in literature on the profile of patients with ECF has been documented from the southern part of India. All consecutive patients who developed or presented with ECF during the study period were included in the study. The etiology, anatomic distribution, fistula output, clinical course, complications, predictive factors for spontaneous closure, and outcomes for patients with ECF were studied. A total of 41 patients were included in this prospective observational study, of which 34 were males and 7 were females. About 95% of ECF were postoperative. Ileum was found to be the most common site of ECF. Also, 49% of fistulas were high output and 51% were low output. Serum albumin levels correlated significantly with fistula healing and mortality. Surgical intervention was required in 41% of patients. Most of the ECF are encountered in the postoperative period. Serum albumin levels can predict fistula healing and mortality. Conservative management should be the first line of treatment. Mortality in patients with ECF continues to be significant and is commonly related to malnutrition and sepsis

Résumé

The present work was undertaken to study the changes in osmotic resistance of stored blood, used for blood transfusion. Blood samples of 50 cases from Orissa Red Cross Blood Bank, Cuttack, were studied. The blood was collected in acid citrate dextrose solution and stored at 4 degrees C. Storage was done under usual condition followed in blood banks. Osmotic fragility was determined at 3 days interval up to 15 days. In each case ESR was determined and in 20 cases plasma fibrinogen level was determined. In this study there was gradual increase in fragility which was maximum on 9th day and then slowly declined, which was statistically significant. ESR decreased markedly after 6th day, which was also statistically significant.

Résumé

The study was carried out to find out the efficacy of glucose oxidase as an adjunct to penicillin and its comparison with cloxacillin on fifty penicillin resistant staphylococcal isolates. There is an unequivocal evidence that the combined use of glucose oxidase and penicillin is superior in controlling penicillin resistant coagulase positive staphylococcal infections in comparison to cloxacillin.
