Copper (II) acetyl acetonate: An efficient catalyst for one-pot synthesis of 3, 4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones.

Efficient and improved syntheses of 3,4-dihydropyrimidinones were reported using copper (II) acetylacetonate as catalyst. The reactants aldehydes, ẞ- ketoester and urea/thiourea were reacted very smoothly at acetonitrile reflux to obtain the corresponding condensation products in excellent yields and the reactions were completed within 3-6 hours of reaction time.

A simple and straightforward synthesis of antihistaminic drug cetirizine.

The anti-histaminc drug cetirizine was synthesized in five linear steps with an overall yield of 50%. All the reactions were very clean and the isolation of products also very easy. Our synthetic strategy was applicable to large scale preparation of cetirizine.
