Résumé

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu (II) with two 12-membered tetradentate macrocyclic ligands derived from the condensation of diketones with diamines have been prepared. All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, conductance measurements, magnetic moment, infrared, ESR and electronic spectral studies. The complexes were found to have composition MLCl2. On the basis of spectral and magnetic studies octahedral geometry have been assigned for these complexes. These complexes have been screened in vitro for their possible antimicrobial activity.

Résumé

The metal complexes with Schiff base derived from the condensation of 3-acetyl coumarin, (0.1mol) with salicyloylhydrazide / 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde in alcohol resulted as Schiff base, (14E)-N’-(2-hydroxybenzylidine)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3- carbohydrazide(HL1) and (14E)-N’-(2-hydroxynaphthalen-3-yl)methylene)-2-oxo-2Hchromene- 3carbohydrazide (HL2). The Schiff base has been shown to coordinate through ring C=N and OH group. These complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, 1H NMR, X-ray diffraction and electronic spectral studies. On the basis of these studies octahedral geometry was assigned for Mn (II), Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II), Zn (II), Cd (II) and Hg(II) complexes. These complexes have been screened in vitro for their possible antimicrobial activity.

Résumé

A systematic study has been carried out to explore the water quality index of ground water of various locations of Gulbarga city. Ten water samples from tube wells, open wells and hand pumps at various locations were collected using standard procedural methods and analyzed for pH, nitrate, turbidity, total hardness, alkalinity, fluoride, sulphate, sulphide, COD and DO. Biological examinations were extensively carried out on each sample using known standard methods. In this study overall water quality of Gulbarga city is very poor and unsuitable for drinking purposes. Present study recommends that the top priority should be given to water quality monitoring and indigenous technologies should be adopted to make water fit for drinking after treatment such as desalination and defluoridation.
