Résumé

The immunoregulating mechanism in schistosomal infestation among Egyptains childern was studied by enumerating T-Iymphocyte cell subsets in peripheral blood. There was no significant difference between the mean values of absolute lymphocytic count [ALC]. T[3] and T[8] in the control group and either the urinary or intestinal bilharzial groups of cases. However, the mean value of T[4] in the bilharzial urinary and intestinal groups of cases were found to be statistically significant when compared with the control group

Résumé

Opsonophagocytosis of both Staph. aureus and coagulase negative staphylococci was studied in 46 strains from different sources of infection. Opsonophagocytosis was found to be mediated by the antibody and complement [in normal human serum] but could be also mediated by antibody alone in absence of the complement [in heated serum]. Also, it could be mediated by the complement alone in the absence of the antibody [in absorbed serum]. Coagulase negative staphylococci was more susceptible to opsonophagocytosis than Staph. aureus strains. No difference in opsonophagocytosis was found according to difference of sources of isolation

Résumé

N. meningitidis was detected in 103 samples out of 120 C.S.F. samples tested [85.8%] by methylene blue stain and in 105 samples [87.5%] by Gram stain. The differential fluorochrome dye, acridine orange could detect N. meningitidis in 114 cases [95%]. Acridine orange staining technique and latex agglutination test have high results [95%] in detection of N. meningitidis in clear C.S.F. in comparison with the culture method, which is more sensitive test [100%] in turbid C.S.F.

Résumé

Seven CEA, alpha-fetoprotein and alkaline phosphatase have been assayed in 32 patients with gastrointestinal cancers. CEA proved to be the valuable marker in determining the prognosis of colon, stomach and pancreatic cancers. In each case, alkaline phosphatase and alpha- fetoprotein were non diagnostic of 25 colon cancer patients, 12 had surgical treatment, CEA showed a fall to normal values in 10 cases [8 had radiotherapy]
