Résumé

In this work, 24 patients suffering from manic disease were studied. They were randomly divided into 2 groups: placebo group [11 patients] and lithium treated group [13 patients]. The control group was composed of 10 sex and age matched healthy subjects. Before and after treatment clinical assessment of the manic state using Beigel scale was carried out. Plasma cAMP were cGMP were determined by radioimmunoassay. It could be concluded from the results of this study that alterations of second messengers cAMP and cGMP constitute a major effect of lithium therapy by which it could ameliorate the manic symptoms. This is strongly favoured by the concomitant positive correlation between cAMP changes and changes of the beigel scores of clinical assessment of the manic state

Résumé

Sociodemographic, clinic and psychometric assessment of 24 elderly patients with late onset depression and 22 middle-aged depressed patients demonstrated that elderly persons were more likely to suffer from a single episode of depression often precipitated by stressful life events. Middle aged depressives were more likely to suffer recurrent episodes of relatively more severe depression. Few differences in symptoms emerged between geriatric depressives and their younger counterparts, these involved: greater self blame and suicidal ideation in middle aged patients and greater weight loss, somatic preoccupation, hypochondrical worries and psychomotor retardation in the elderly. Agitation and paranoid symptoms long thought to be typical of elderly depressives did not emerge as hallmarks of elderly depressed patients in the present study. Psychotic features did not distinguish the elderly depressives from their younger contemporaries. The findings of the present study indicated that neuroticism and stressful life events were important underlying factors in evolution of depressive illness in the elderly

Résumé

This work was done on 40 cases of fracture lateral humeral condyle reviewed. 30 cases fixed by K-wires and 10 cases treated by open reduction and fixed by catgut sutures. The late results were evaluated in both groups. It was proved that internal fixation by K-wire is more secure and stable, with better late results

Résumé

This study was to evaluate the effect of short-wave diathermy on the healing of tenomized and repaired rat's tendoachilles. The right tendoachilles of 80 rats were tenomized and sutured with 2-0 silk. Rats were divided equally into an experimental and control groups. On the next day, the right tendoachilles of the experimental group were treated with short-wave diathermy while the right tendoachilles of the control group were mock-treated. Sittings were given every other day for 15 minutes. Half of the rats from each group [n = 20] were evaluated after 10 days of treatment, while the other half were evaluated after 20 days of treatment. After 10 days of treatment, no significant differences were demonstrated between the experimental and control group regarding peritendinous adhesions, tendon breaking strength or histological grade of healing. If treatment continuoud for 20 days, highly significant reduction of peritendinous adhesion and highly significant increase in the grades of tendon healing, were observed in the short-wave[experimental] group when compared to the mock-treated [control] group

Résumé

Two field experiments were carried out, in two different texture locations at the Agricultural Experimental Station of El-Kharga, New Valley Governorate, during two successive seasons, to study the effect of organic manuring [Multhum] in different doses [0, 2, 4, 8 t/fed.] and two irrigation intervals [14 and 21 days] on the microbiological and enzymatic activities under wheat, and their effects on wheat yield. The results showed that the application of organic manure did not increase the biological activities under wheat after the end of the first year, while its positive effect was clarified at the end of the second year, measured by the noticeable increase in the counts of total bacteria, streptomyces and aerobic cellulose decomposers, as well as the enzymatic activity. The elongation of the irrigation interval had a negative effect on the biological activities under wheat during the course of the experiment and also significantly decreased plant height, leaf area and the yield of wheat in both types of soil under study. It seems that the irrigation interval [14 days] was the most favorite for biological activity in soil

Résumé

1. The operative treatment of flexion deformity hip after poliomyelitis gave 83.33% satisfactory result. 2. Satisfactory result was more when the angle of deformity was less than 30 degrees. 3. The presence of associated flexion deformity knee is a cause of unsatisfactory result. 4. Soutter's operation is most suitable in flexion deformity less than 30 degrees. 5. Compell's operation is more suitable when the flexion deformity is more than 30 degrees. 6. Yount oepration had the least satisfactory result and can be used only as supplementary procedure to the two other operations
