Résumé

Traditional system of medicine recommends various hepatoprotective agents and preparations to treat hepatic disorders. Polyherbal formulations F[1] [Crude drugs formulation], F[2] [Lab extracts formulation] and F[3] [commercial extracts formulation] were developed by using well documented medicinal plants, Cassia fistula, Coccinia indica and Vigna mungo for the treatment of liver disorders by exploiting the knowledge of Tradition system of medicine and evaluated for hepatoprotective activity using parameters including Alanine Transferase [ALAT], Aspartic Amino Transferase [ASAT], Alkaline phosphatase [ALP] and Total Proteins [TP]. Among these formulations F[2] and F[3] showed significant hepatoprotective activity at dose of 500 mg/kg, p.o., when compared to the CCI[4] control group II. Formulations F[2] and F[3] are effective against experimental liver damage. Biochemical parameters showed better results in lab extracts formulations

Résumé

The cones of Cupressus sempervirens Linn, belong to the family Cupressaceae were collected from Government Botanical Garden, Ootacamund and dried under shade. The dried cones were powdered and used for physico-chemical constants determination. The macroscopical and microscopical characters were also evaluated [by using fresh cones] and reported. The anatomical parameters of the cones were studied first time on this plant

Résumé

Safoof-e-Kasir-e-Reeh is a Unani preparation containing Cumin [Zira safed], Ajowan [Ajwain], Black salt [Namak-e-Siyah], and Black Pepper [Filfll Siyah] used as carminative and antiflatulent. The Safoof [powder] was prepared by blending all the powdered ingredients after passing through 100 mesh sieve. The Safoof was extracted with methanol and filtered. The filtrate was used for estimation of piperine by High Performance Thin Layer Chromatographic technique using silica gel 60 F HPTLC plates [Merck]. Benzene: Ethyl acetate: Diethyl amine [60:30:10] was used as mobile phase for piperine. The detection was performed at the wavelength of 254 nm. The piperine content was found to be 2.284%. This estimation technique is very much useful for the standardization of Unani formulations containing black pepper

Résumé

Ethanol extracts from the plant Hypericum mysorense [Family: Hypericaceae]. Passiflora edulis [Family: Passifloraceae] and Nelumbo nucifcra Gaertn. [Family: Nymphaeaceae] were screened for antimicrobial activity. All the extracts showed that almost all concentration [40 mg/ml, 20 mg/ml, 10 mg/ml] of extracts possesses antibacterial and antifungal activity against three gram +ve, three gram -ve and three fungal strains by zone of inhibition method

Résumé

The Melia composita Willd. [family Meliaceae] was studied to fix the parameters for pharmacognostical standards. The present investigation deals with macro and microscopical characters of leaf along with studies of Histochemical colour reaction leaf constant like vein-islet number, vein termination number, stomatal number, stomatal index and palisade ratio and also studied physical constants like ash values and extractive values

Résumé

Aqueous, chloroform and methanol extracts of leaves of Vitex negundo were tested against various bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus NCIM 2079, Staphylococcus epidermidis NCIM 2493, Staphylococcus albus NCIM 2/78. Baciffus subtilis NCIM 2063, Escherichia coli NCIM 2065. Klebsiella aerogens NCIM-1098, Proteus vulgaris NCIM 2027 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCIM 2036. Positive antibacterial activities were observed with methanolic and chloroform extracts against all bacteria, no inhibitory activities of aqueous extract was noticed

Résumé

Antidiabetic activity of various sub-fractions of alcoholic extract of the seeds of Trigonella foenum graecum L. [Leguminosae] was evaluated in alloxaninduced diabetic rats. The effect of these fractions on lipid profile and liver function tests were also assessed to evaluate their activity in controlling the diabetes related metabolic alterations. The parameters measured were plasma glucose, total protein, cholesterol, triglycerides, alkaline phosphatase, SGOT and SGPT. The results indicate effective role of Trigonella foenum graecum on the above mentioned parameters indicating that Trigonella foenum graecum can also control the diabetes related metabolic alterations apart from controlling the glucose levels. Among the fractions tested chloroform sub-fraction was found to be more active in comparison to other sub-fractions. It can be concluded that chloroform sub-fraction of the alcoholic extract of Trigonella foenun graecum exhibited significant antidiabetic activity and corrected the metabolic alterations in diabetic rats and this activity may resemble to insulin-like properties

Résumé

Effect of formulated cream of leaf volatile oil of Atalantia monophylla Correa. for wound healing and antimicrobial activity [bacteria and fungi] were evaluated. The volatile oil was distilled from leaves by using hydrodistillation method. The 2% and 5% cream was prepared by using base [stearic acid, potassium hydroxide, cetostearyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, petroleum jelly, propyl paraben sodium, methyl paraben sodium and glycerin]. The cream showed very good wound healing activity by excision wound method in rats compared to that of standard drug Nitrofurazone. The antimicrobial activity of 2% femulated cream was also carried out by standard cup plate technique using Ciprofloxacin and Nystatin as standard drugs for bacteria and fungi respectively
