Résumé

Hydatid cyst in children is not uncommon in endemic areas. Fourteen cases with hydatid cyst of the lung under 11 years were studied. Hemagglutination test was positive in 75% of patients. All patients presented with one of the complications except one. This fact was relate to the hyperactivity of children as compared with adults. Bronchobiliary fistula proved by bronchoscopy was present in two patients. Abdominal ultrasound was done for most of the patients [10] to exclude associated liver affection. Cases were treated surgically by enucleation of the cyst and plication of the cavity in 12 patients and lobectomy in 2 patients. Postoperative follow up for a period varied from one year to 7 years was satisfactory and cases which recurred were treated with albendazole. Conservation of lung tissue during operation is important, especially in endemic area and gives satisfactory results

Résumé

Bronchogenic carcinoma [BC] is the most common tumor of the lung and causes over one third of all cancer deaths in male. The aim of this study was to evaluate the different invasive techniques in staging patients with BC. Thirty-four patients with BC without any clinical manifestations of metastasis were studied. Nine patients had performed scalene lymph node biopsy, 13 patients had performed mediastinotomy and 12 patients had performed mediastinoscopy. The positive results were 11.1%, 30.8% and 41.7%, respectively. It was concluded that these invasive techniques are safe procedures for the assessment patients with BC

Résumé

In surgical management of esophageal carcinoma bilateral trunkal vagotomy is unavoidable and this has some effect on the intrathoracic stomach. So, the purpose of this study was to assess the function of the intrathoracic stomach after vagotomy. This work was conducted on 23 patients with esophageal carcinoma and 10 healthy persons as a control group. Fasting serum gastrin [FSG] was estimated by radioimmunoassay and residual free acidity [RFA] was measured by HCl titration. There was preoperative normoacidity among esophageal carcinoma patients who showed marked reduction in the early postoperative period. Three months later they showed fair acid secretion. Preoperative FSG level was within normal range, one month later there was hypergastrinemia which returned back to normal values 3 months postoperatively. So, it was concluded that intrathoracic stomach has been showed to restore its acid secretory level as well as its gastrin secretion level 3 months after esophagogastrectomy

Résumé

In this article, the results of the study of some of the metabolic changes associated with carcinoma of the esophagus were presented. Changes in plasma copper, zinc and retinol binding protein were determined. The material employed for this study included two groups of patients; group I, which consisted of 20 patients with carcinoma of the esophagus and group II, which consisted of 10 healthy controls. It was found that the mean plasma level of copper and retinol binding protein was significantly different in the two groups, while the difference was insignificant for the mean plasma zinc level. Results were analyzed and a discussion is presented with review of the literature
