Résumé

Objective: To determine maternal and neonatal outcome in planned induction of labor versus expectant management in mild pre-eclampsia at term

Study Design: Quasi-experimental study

Place and Duration of Study: Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, from July to December 2016

Methodology:After taking informed consent, 200 females fulfilling the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Sample was equally divided into two groups. In Group A [induction] depending upon the Bishop score, labor was induced with prostaglandins or amniotomy. In Group B [Expectant], expectant management was followed with feto-maternal monitoring.Maternal monitoring was done with blood pressure recording and laboratory tests while fetal monitoring was done by keeping maternal fetal kick count record, recording CTG and biophysical profile. Student t-test was used to analyze numerical data and Chi-square for qualitative data. A p-value of <0.05 was taken as statistically significant

Results: There were more maternal complications in expectant management group as compared to induction group, while neonatal outcomes were comparable in both groups

Conclusion: In mild pre-eclampsia, induction of labor at term is beneficial for mother, but there is no difference in neonatal outcome in the two modes of management

Résumé

Objective: To determine the success rate of surgical excision assisted with intra operative frozen section technique; in patients with high clinical suspicion of basal cell carcinoma at aesthetically important areas

Study Design: Descriptive cross-sectional

Place and Duration of Study: Department of Histopathology, Army Medical College and Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi in collaboration with department of Dermatology, Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi from Dec 2016 to Jun 2017

Material and Methods: A total of fifty one [n=51] patients between age 35-75 years with high clinical suspicion of basal cell carcinoma of any size or histology on aesthetically important areas who were planned for surgical excision were enrolled in the study. Success rate was assessed in terms of tumor free margin on histopathology report

Results: Mean age of study subjects was 54.7 years +/-13.4 SD with M:F of 1.43:1. Success rate was found to be 84.3 percent [n=43/51]. No significant difference was observed in success rate after stratification with respect to gender, age, types of BCC [p>0.05 in all cases], but success of excision according to aesthetic areas was significant [p=0.029]

Conclusion: Conventional surgical excision for BCC at aesthetically important areas assisted with intra operative frozen section technique resulted in high success rates in terms of tumor free margins

Résumé

Background and Objective: To evaluate usefulness of immunohistochemical marker C-kit [CD117] in differentiating Adenoid cystic carcinoma [AdCC] from Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma [PLGA] in patients of salivary gland carcinomas. AdCC is a malignant salivary gland neoplasm with poor prognosis. PLGA is a salivary gland malignancy with indolent growth pattern. Differentiating between the two entities is a diagnostic challenge. We evaluated the role of C-kit in differentiating the two

Methods: This is a Cross sectional study.Samples of 19 tumors including 12 AdCC and 4 PLGA was evaluated at Department of Histopathology, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi from December 2015 to August 2016.Immunohistochemical techniques were used to analyze the level of c-kit expression in AdCC [n = 12], polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma [PLGA] [n = 6]. Samples were stained using monoclonal antibody against C-kit. Statistical analysis of the data was done using SPSS version 21

Results: Strong diffuse cytoplasmic reactivity was observed in more than 50% of the tumor cells of AdCC whereas less than 20% of cells showed negative to weak positivity in PLGA. Hence, the difference in the expression of c-kit between AdCC and PLGA was statistically significant [p value <0.002]

Conclusions: CD117 expression itself can be used as a marker in differential diagnosis of salivary gland neoplasms. However, the percentage of the CD117 immunoreactive cells and the staining intensities appeared to be important factors in distinguishing AdCC from PLGA

Résumé

Holy Qur'an is a compete code covering all aspect of life, whether spiritual, intellectual, political, social, economic or scientific. Here I intend to discuss its scientific aspect. Islamic teaching emphasize on pursuing knowledge. Muslim scholars from the past were very much aware of this instruction given by Allah [s.w.t.] and they were very captivated by it. Many religious duties of Islam emphasized Muslims to search in the field of astronomy like the determination of direction of Holy Ka'abah. So they developed many ideas and theories in the field of astronomy. Through this paper I intend focus on the contribution of Muslim scientists to the field of astronomy and also their influence. Muslim scientists introduced the astronomical instruments and astronomical observatories that were founded by Muslims in Middle Ages, these are also mentioned here
