Résumé

It is generally accepted that per-implantitis is caused by a bacterial challenge to the implant-bearing soft and hard tissues. A few studies have focused on the investigation of peri-implant crevicular fluid [PICF] flow rate and their relationship with the peri-implant condition. Hence, the aim of the present study was to assess if PICF flow rate can be ruther studies as a possible objective diagnostic aid in dental implants. 63 implant fixture from 30 systemically healthy subjects were divided into 2 groups, 28 implants with probing depth <3mm [Group I] and 35 implants with probing depth >3mm [Group II]. Plaque Index and probing depth were evaluated for each implant. The volume of collected peri-implant crevicular fluid was measured with Periotron [â] 6000. Implants with deep probing depth [>3mm ] had significantly higher scores of plaque indexes and higher mean of PICF volume [1.91 +/- 1.01 and 0.314 +/- 0.097 micro / L, respectively] [P<0.1]. The present results suggest that PICF analysis could be a useful quantitative parameter for peri-implant gingival changes

Résumé

Augmentation of the alveolar bone is widely used in implant treatment to create predictable function and esthetics in areas with inadequate bone volume. This can be achieved by various techniques including hard tissue onlays, bone grafts, membrane techniques, bone distraction and bone expansion. The objective of this article is to discuss recent observations of the various bone grafts and bone substitutes, guided bone regeneration, combination techniques, as well as ridge preservation techniques. Despite the increase in the number of procedures that require bone grafts, there has not been a single ideal bone graft substitute. An attempt is made to review the existing bone grafts, and the developments in tissue engineering that may bring biologic alternatives to enhance the functional capabilities of the bone graft substitutes

Résumé

Research has shown that overhanging dental restorations and subgingival margin placement play an important role in providing an ecologic niche for periodontal pathogens. Periodontal attachment loss and inflammation associated with overhanging restorations were reported extensively in the literature. A total of 15 overhanging amalgam restorations were selected and the plaque index [PI], Gingival Index [GI], Probing pocket depth [PPD] and Gingival crevicular fluid [GCF] was analyzed. The amalgam overhangs were removed and the readings were repeated at the end of one week and 4 weeks to find out the effect on periodontal health. Statistically significant reductions in all parameters were observed showing improved periodontal health after the removal of the overhang. These observations further highlight the importance of removing the overhanging margins of the restorations as an important part of initial periodontal therapy

Résumé

Esthetics has become a significant aspect of dentistry and clinicians are faced with achieving acceptable gingival esthetics as well as addressing biologic and functional problems. The color of the gingiva plays an important role in overall esthetics but the principles and the techniques of the management of the problems associated with gingival melanin pigmentation are still not fully established. A method of de-epithelialization of the pigmented or discolored areas of the gingiva using a surgical diamond bur is documented. The technique is relatively simple and versatile and requires minimum time and effort. If repigmentation occurs, the procedure can be done repeatedly in the same area without limitation or causing any permanent damage. Three cases of gingival hyperpigmentation treated by the surgical abrasion technique are described here. After eighteen months follow up, none of the cases showed any recurrence of the pigmentation
