Local rabbit strain: a suitable animal model for experimental pharmacology

Objectives: To assess the suitability of local strain of rabbits as animal diabetic model

Methods: The study was conducted in the Department of Pharmacology PGMI Lahore. 25 rabbits of local strain were injected alloxan monohydrate in the marginal ear vein with mean BSR of 117.8 +/- 12.5 mg/dl

Results: A 22 rabbits survived and mean BSR was 288.31 +/- 9.4, 8 days after the induction of diabetes

Conclusion: Alloxan induced diabetic rabbits of local strain is a suitable option for pharmacological research in our set-up
