Résumé

A case control prospective randomized single blind study was carried out to see the effects of bilateral ilioinguinal nerve block with 0.5% bupivacain on postoperative pain and analgesic requirement, assessed on visual analogue scale. Sixty patients of comparable characteristics who had undergone caesarean section with Pfennansteil incision under general anaesthesia were studied. A control group of 30 patients received no local anaesthetics postoperatively. Forty eight patients in control group demanded analgesics within an hour of their arrival in the ward and their requirements for systemic analgesics were found high during the immediate postoperative period. llioinguinal nerve block had reduced the pain scores and analgesics requirement for almost first 12 hours, in 48% patients during the immediate postoperative period. After analysis of the results, it was concluded that the bilateral ilioinguinal nerve block is an efficient method for early postoperative pain relieve
