Résumé

Gross tissue evaluation of a pathology specimen forms an indispensable but often neglected component for complete pathologic evaluation along with microscopic examination. Macroscopic features are helpful in the differential diagnosis of various cases, which are of challenge. The gross features of the surgical specimen have to be properly examined and documented at the initial setup because once the specimen is dissected and taken for processing it is unsuitable for gross examination. Therefore, the gross or the macroscopic description remains the only document later which can provide an important clue for diagnosis. The purpose of this present article is to provide adequate insight into the gross examination and description of the surgical specimen and to review the macroscopic features of various pathologies.

Résumé

White lesions are relatively frequent in the oral cavity with a prevalence of approximately 24.8%. Among them is oral leukoplakia with a prevalence rate of 0.2–3.6%. There were various debates about the verrucous carcinoma and PVL (proliferative verrucous leukoplakia) being different entities or a part of spectrum at different stages of the disease process. In this article we are reporting a case with coexistence of two different histological features in the form of verrucous carcinoma and PVL of oral cavity with a need to throw some light to understand the pathogenesis of premalignant lesions.

Résumé

Choroidal osteoma is an unusual form of intraocular calcification seen in otherwise healthy eyes. It is a benign idiopathic osseous tumor of the choroid, typically seen in young females. Choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM) is a complication seen in one-third of these patients and carries a poor visual outcome. We report a case of a 25-year-old hyperthyroid female with choroidal osteoma and subfoveal CNVM in her left eye which was successfully treated using low-fluence photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin followed by a single injection of intravitreal ranibizumab.
