Résumé

A total of 841 outpatients at different age groups attending ophthalmic and obstetrics clinics were clinically examined and the salient symptoms in toxoplasmosis suspects were recorded. Meanwhile, history of contact with house cats was taken. Indirect hemagglutination test using a commercially available kit [TOXO-HAI] was carried out on 841 serum samples, where 477 [56.7%] were proved to have toxoplasma antibodies at varying titers. Age and sex susceptibilities to toxoplasmosis were investigated

Résumé

The objective of the present study is to determine the bacteriological and mycological status of frozen meat and to study the possibility of becoming a source of infection to the personnel actually h and ling such meat. The examination of the surface of 53 imported frozen meat specimens revealed the recovery of Staphylococcus aureus [7.5%], Shigella spp. [13.2%] and Proteus [3.8%], Aspergillus niger [11.35%], A. flavus [5.7%], A. clavatus [3.8%], Rhizopus [7.5%], Penicillium [15.1%], Alternaria [3.8%], Fusarium [3.8%], Rhodotorula [7.5%] and C and ida albicans [5.7%]. The examination of swabs obtained from the h and s of 14 meat h and lers resulted in the isolation of Staph. aureus [7.1%], Shigella spp. [14.3%] and Proteus [7.1%], Aspergillus niger [14.3%], A. flavus [35.7%], A. clavatus [21.4%], Rhizopus [7.1%], Penicillium [14.3%], Alternaria [14.3%], Fusarium [7.1%], Rhodotorula [21.4%] and C and ida albicans [35.7%]

Résumé

Samples were obtained from 80 broilers, 50 layers and 735 hatching eggs at different stages of the embryonic development to determine the incidence of C. jejuni. The results revealed the recovery of C. jejuni from 2.5 and 4% of the tested broilers and layers, respectively. The organism was isolated from 1.8% of the examined hatching eggs. The sensitivity testing of the isolates to 10 antibiotics clarified the sensitivity of the isolates to gentamycin, flumequine, chloramphenicol, tetracyclines and nalidixic acid in descending order and its resistance to oxolonic acid, ampicillin, trimethoprimsulfate and erythromycin

Résumé

Sixty-two cases of clinically diagnosed non-trachomatous conjunctivitis were included in this study. All patients were subjected to thorough clinical and ophthalmologic examination. Laboratory investigations were carried out for the isolation and identification of the viral agents. The laboratory confirmed cases of follicular conjunctivitis comprised: Herpes simplex [20], epidemic keratoconjunctivitis due to adenovirus [8] and Newcastle disease [2]. Varicella zoster conjunctivitis was clinically diagnosed in 3 cases, but the virus was not isolated in any of them. Moreover, conjunctivitis medicamentosa and conjunctivitis associated with chronic tonsillitis were clinically diagnosed, each in 3 cases. It is concluded that clinical diagnosis of viral follicular conjunctivitis is sometimes difficult, and appropriate laboratory tests are imperative in establishing the viral etiology

Résumé

Outpatients visiting ophthalmic clinics of Kasr El-Aini Hospitals and Research Institute of Ophthalmology [n= 138] were examined for the presence of CSD. The clinical diagnosis of CSD was made in 14.49% of the examined patients on the bases of Hanger-Rose intradermal test, and confirmed by the indirect fluorescent antibody test. Age and sex susceptibility was studied, where females at age group 6-12 years were more susceptible to CSD. Suggestion to avoid CSD were given

Résumé

Bacteriological examination was carried out on samples taken from the surface of 93 fishes: Tilapia nilotica [35], Mugil cephalus [40], Clarias lazera [18], and h and s of 12 fish h and lers. The overall rate of isolation from the surface of fish amounted to Salmonella spp. is 3.2%, Shigella 2.2%, Klebsiella 6.5%, E. coli 12.9% and Erysipelothrix insidiosa 16.1%
