Résumé

Thirty patients with acute meningitis and ten normal healthy controls were studied to evaluate the role of serum C-reactive protein [CRP] and CSF lactic acid in differentiating bacterial from non bacterial meningitis, following-up patients and determining the efficacy of treatment. This work showed that both tests were very valuabale for rapid and accutrate diagnosis and for differential diagnosis of acute meningitis and to decide whether or not to start antibiotic therapy. For follow-up and evaluation of antibiotic efficacy, both tests were efficient. However, serum CRP is more useful for predicting complications and when low, an end of therapy lumbar puncture would seldom be indicated

Résumé

Twenty hamsters were included in this work, each was infected with cercariae of S. mansoni. Fifty days later the animals were dissected and their organs were digested. It was found that the highest incidence of ectopic schistosomal eggs was in the skeletal muscles, followed by cardiac muscles and brain. The lowest incidence was in the eye

Résumé

There is a significant lowering of serum zinc level in hepatic schistosomiasis. This lowering is more in advanced and complicated cases. Zinc level in serum gives an idea about the condition of the liver as there is more lowering when liver functions deteriorate

Résumé

White albino mice were infected with circa ria of Schistosoma Mansoni. The mesenteric lymph nodes were examined both histologically and histo chemically for demonstration of cytoplasmic RNA granules using methyl green pyronin, as well as for some enzymes namely succinic dehydrogenase, alpha esterase and acid phosphatase. The histopathological changes suggested an immunological reaction. The histochemical examination revealed an increased activity of succinic dehydrogenase, alpha esterase and acid phosphatase enzymes suggesting that they are evolved in these immunological reactions
