Résumé

Objectives: To observe Quality of Life [QoL] in diabetes mellitus patients after fabrication of immediate dentures


Setting: Department of Prosthodontics in Hamdard University Dental Hospital, Karachi


Period: Two years from October 2011 to September 2013


Methodology: Thirty patients with established diagnoses of diabetes mellitus reported. In this study by purposive non-probability sampling technique. In this study patients were selected, male and female patients were 24 and 6 respectively with the age range of 22- 74 years. After getting consent Questions mention in OHIP-14 were asked from the patients on 1[st] visit and 2 months later after fabrication of immediate denture to assess the QoL of in these patients. Data was obtained after using SPSS-version 19. For analysis Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was applied to get results. Probability level of P

Results: There was marked improvement in different domains of QoL in diabetes mellitus patients after fabrication of immediate dentures, most of the patients were pleased with their prosthesis. Three patients had complained of pain on buccal side which was corrected by trimming the overextended flange of their denture. All patients had improvement in phonetics [P value 0.01], better choice of food [P value 0.00], eating ability [P value 0.01], decrease embarrassment [P value 0.08] and self-assurance [P value 0.025]. However, effect of immediate denture on variable like tension was not advantageous having P-value of 0.157


Conclusion: By fabrication of immediate dentures to diabetes mellitus patients, QoL can be markedly improved in such patients

Résumé

The study was conducted to observe quality of life in pediatric patients provided with acrylic removable partial denture visiting Hamdard University Dental Hospital, Karachi. It was a descriptive type of study. The study was carried out in the Department of Prosthodontics, Hamdard University Dental Hospital, Karachi from January 2012 to December 2013. Non probability purposive sampling technique was used. Total 30 patients visited to Prosthodontics Department of Hamdard University Dental Hospital, Karachi for provision of prosthesis were included in this study. Age range varied from 03-14 years, while sixteen were boys and fourteen were girls. Four of them were already denture wearer. Questionnaire based on OHIP-14 was used to evaluate quality of life in these patients. After collection of data, results were tabulated on SPSS. All patients were provided with acrylic removable partial dentures. Regular follow up was maintained and all patients were satisfied with the performance of their prosthesis. Acrylic removable prosthesis can be very effective for oral rehabilitation of pediatric patients when fixed prosthesis is not feasible due to multiple factors

Résumé

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of torus mandibularis in dental patients with regard to ethnic population in Karachi city. This study was undertaken at a dentistry teaching hospital of Karachi. Eight hundred subjects were clinically examined, presenting for their common dental health issues with the diagnosis of torus mandibularis [TM]. This study was conducted from January 2011 to March 2012. The location, position and clinical presentation of torus mandibularis were recorded, related to age and sex of various ethnic populations. Subjects participated in the study were 365[45.6%] males and 435[54.3%] females. Its overall prevalence in the study subjects was 8.6%. The mean age of patient was 41.79 and STD +/- 16.61. Torus mandibularis was observed in both genders with females having predominance. Urdu speaking population showed higher frequency of TM as compared to other ethnic sample

Résumé

A case is presented of a fractured Maxillary central Incisor of a young female patient. These are the common incidents due to trauma, fall, fights and sports. This particular patient was young female and had to get tooth restored before her marriage in few days time. The tooth was initially restored with post/core and was prepared for porcelain fused to metal crown following the standard procedures for a post, core and crown preparation
