Résumé

The aim of this study is to assess the association between crown-rump length (CRL) measured before the 10th gestational week and birth weight. Results from 316 transvaginal ultrasonography scans at the 46th, 53rd, 60th, 67th, and 74th days of pregnancy were compared in low birth weight (LBW) versus normal birth weight groups. A positive correlation between CRL and birth weight was observed when CRL was measured at days 60, 67, and 74. CRL measured on the 67th day of pregnancy was significantly smaller in the LBW group than in the normal birth weight group. A cut-off value of CRL=26.5 mm measured at day 67 has the highest power to predict LBW.

Résumé

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare disorder that's characterized by multiple venous malformations of the skin and gastrointestinal tract, and these lesions usually cause episodes of occult gastrointestinal hemorrhage and iron deficiency anemia. We report here on a case of a 57-year-old woman who presented with intermittent melena and multiple cutaneous venous malformations. The endoscopic and radiologic examinations show multiple bluish polypoid venous malformations on the gastrointestinal tract, retroperitoneum, liver, mediastinum and lung. We were able to diagnose her as suffering from blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome and we treated her with iron supplementation for anemia. We report this case along with a brief review of the relevant literature.

Résumé

The cardiovascular manifestations of hyperthyroidism are sinus tachycardia, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrioventricular block, bundle branch block, angina pectoris, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy. Though complete atrioventricular block is rare, it is important to recognize it in clinical practice because of the possibility of cardiac arrest. We experienced a 47-year-old female patient who had hyperthyroidism with complete atrioventricular block and developed cardiac arrest despite the initiation of an antithyroid drug. We could resuscitate successfully and inserted a temporary pacemaker, but eventually a permanent pacemaker was needed to prevent the recurrence of cardiac arrest. We report a rare case of complete atrioventricular block and cardiac arrest associated with hyperthyroidism with the review of references.

Résumé

The aorto-enteric fistula is rarely occurred in patients, however it is clinically important since it is a life threatening condition in association with a massive gastrointestinal bleeding. It is classified as the primary type associated with aortic aneurysm and the secondary type which is complicated with vascular surgery. The fistula is mainly found between the aorta and the third portion of duodenum, and rarely occurred on the other part of gastrointestinal tract. In particular, to our knowledge the fistula between the aorta and transverse colon has not been reported. We report the aorto-transverse colon fistula in a 37 years old man who presented a massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Past history revealed that he had been stabbed in the abdomen 18 years ago, suggesting the pseudoaneurysm of aorta with fistula formation could be related. The aorto-transverse colon fistula was diagnosed by abdominal angiography and the fistula was repaired by operation.
