Résumé

ABSTRACT. Supernumerary teeth are dental anomalies of number that, due to their prevalence, raise concerns among dentists, parents, and patients. They can occur isolated or associated with a syndrome and can lead to complications in eruption, occlusion, and patients′ appearance. Mesiodens are the most common type of supernumerary teeth and usually occur in the midline of the maxilla, between the two central incisors. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of supernumerary teeth is important to prevent complications in permanent dentition. This article discusses the clinical variations of mesiodens and reports three cases of fully-erupted double mesiodens.

ABSTRACT. Establishing accurate prognosis after correct diagnosis is the most important point of reference in our clinical practice. The need to correctly predicting teeth permanence in the mouth has prompted each dental discipline to find ways to establish it. Since prosthodontics, or oral rehabilitation, incorporates the procedures of other disciplines and usually is the one that finishes most treatments, it should review all the factors affecting the prognosis of comprehensive treatment. Below is a review of dental and periodontal considerations for prognosis in prosthodontics, as well as the implications of treatments performed on abutment teeth in order to retain them, and the strategic weight of each abutment.

This study analyzed the lower distal extension removable partial denture's abutment teeth rest seats and retention surfaces in patients treated at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2008. These clinical evaluations were performed to 81 patients, previous informed consent, to show the use of restorative materials and the integrity of dental tissues in these areas. The data were recorded in tables designed for this purpose and the results showed that the tooth surfaces in the area of support and retention were prepared in enamel, dentin, restorative materials and tooth restoration interface in varying percentages, as well as record the frequency lower teeth used as abutments for removable partial dentures with distal extension and the use of retainers suitable for such cases

Résumé

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to colorimetrically evaluate the masking effect of different opacity of ingots on the final shade of IPS Empress Esthetic(R) laminate veneer restorations using the CIE L*a*b* system. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six porcelain disks of IPS Empress Esthetic(R) system (translucency: E 01, E 03, E 0C-1, E TC-1, E TC-2, E TC-3) were fabricated with 7 mm in diameter and 0.6 mm in thickness. Six extracted human incisors (shade: A1, A3, A4, B2, B3, C3) were used as the abutment specimens. The incisors were prepared using a diamond wheel and made with a flat labial surface on the middle 1/3. For each combination of different shades of abutments and copings, the change in color was measured with a colorimeter. CIE L*a*b* coordinates were recorded for each specimen. Color differences (DeltaE) were calculated. Descriptive statistical analysis was done. RESULTS: DeltaE values were significantly affected by coping translucency and abutment shade (P<.05). The color differences (DeltaE) of laminate veneers among abutments with A3, B3, C3, and A4 shade were mostly below 2.7 which was within the clinically acceptable range, while color differences between A4 and B2, A3 and B2, and A1 and A4 showed more than 2.7. CONCLUSION: The final color of IPS Empress Esthetic(R) laminate veneers were significantly influenced by translucency of the coping and shade of abutment teeth. The large value difference of abutment teeth limited the masking ability by laminate veneers.

Résumé

Objective:To compare the effects on periodontal health of the abutment between concealed denture(flexible denture)and two traditional removable partial dentrue(RPD)-one with flexible retainers, the other with wire clasps and casting clasps, and observe whether the concealed denture can damage the abutment teeth.Methods:255 cases of the patients losing one of the first molar were collected, and divided into three groups, using one of three kinds of RPD and then repaired with the concealed denture, traditional plastic denture and casting frame denture respectively to one group. The indices of periodontal health of the abutment teeth were examined after 1 month and 1year.Results:Among three groups, the plaque index(PLI),gingival index(GI),probing depth(PD),teeth mobility and alveolar bone height of the abutment teeth were similar. Conclusion:Compared with two traditional RPD designs, there are no negative effects on periodontal health of the abutment teeth with the concealed denture long-term.
