RÉSUMÉ

The dosage, dose and administration method of decoctions are important factors affecting the efficacy of prescriptions. By analyzing 35 decoction formulas from the Ming and Qing dynasties within the Catalogue of Ancient Classic Famous Formulas (First Batch), it was found that the average dosage was equivalent to about 65 g, of which 71.4% (25/35) of the prescriptions had a dosage ≤60 g. And among them, the dosage of decoctions in the Ming dynasty was significantly smaller than that in the Qing dynasty. Considering the characteristics of formulas in Song dynasty, it is believed that decoctions in Ming and Qing dynasties were influenced by the popular use of decoctions during the Song, Jin, and Yuan dynasties. Some decoctions recorded a dosage of one dose instead of one day, which was more evident in the Ming dynasty. However, by the Qing dynasty, the usage of prescriptions with a dosage of one day gradually became more common. Therefore, in the practical research and application of classic famous formulas from the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is advised to pay attention to the difference between the dosage, one dose and the daily dosage. It is necessary to determine whether to double the dosage of the original formula based on the actual use, in order to ensure the clinical efficacy.

After a comprehensive analysis and research of ancient books and literatures, we discovered that six Banxia Baizhu Tianma Tang prescriptions have the same name. It was originally created by LI Gao. The idea of composition has a certain inheritance relationship with ZHANG Yuan-su′s Tianma Banxia Tang and Huatan Yuhu Wan, which are recorded in Prescription of Peaceful Benevolent Dispensary. In later generations, four doctors developed five prescriptions of the same name. CHENG Guo-peng of the Qing dynasty reformed the prescription based on the theory of phlegm and dampness. He reduced tonic components based on LI's ideas to strengthen the expectorant function, and then transformed the prescription into two of the same name, one for headache and the other for vertigo. The latter was recorded in the textbook of Chinese Herbal Medicine and The Catalogue of Classic Prescriptions (batch 1), which has the greatest impact on the contemporary prescriptions. Its composition is Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum Cum Zingbere et Alumine (5.595 g), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (11.19 g), Gastrodiae Rhizoma, Poria, Citri Exocarpium Rubrum (each 3.73 g), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (2 g), 2 pieces of fresh Zingberis Rhizoma Recens (about 2 g) and 2 Jujubae Fructus. The botanical origin of these herbs is clear, and the dosage of herbs is safe in accordance with the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China.P. The total amount of each dose is about 37.975 g, while the daily dosage is not far different from that of invention. Since its invention, it has been mainly used in the treatment of phlegm headache and vertigo caused by wind phlegm disturbance. In modern clinical practice, it is widely used in treating various diseases with vertigo and headache as the main symptoms, mainly including hypertension, acute ischemic stroke, vertebrobasilar insufficiency, cervical spondylosis, primary headache, Meniere's disease and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. When the syndrome differentiation is consistent with relevant syndrome type with phlegm as the main pathological factor in traditional Chinese medicine, we can modify the prescription as appropriate.

There are only 22 varieties of pediatric drugs in National Essential Drug Catalogue (2018 Edition), including five chemicals and 17 Chinese patent medicines (13 prescriptions). Chinese patent medicines are widely used to treat pediatric diseases. The formulations of Chinese patent medicines are mostly derived from ancient classic prescriptions, based on the theory of syndrome differentiation and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine. The instruction of Chinese patent medicine as a document to guide the use of medicines, the specification and integrity of it directly affects whether Chinese patent medicine is used safely and effectively. This paper investigates the instructions of pediatric Chinese patent medicines in National Essential Drug Catalogue (2018 Edition) comparing with the relevant requirements of the United States and Japan, analyzes the toxicity and contraindication of Chinese patent medicines for pediatrics, summarizes the problems existing in these instructions, and puts forward some suggestions. The result shows that there are few kinds of proprietary Chinese patent medicines for pediatrics. There exist common shortcomings in the instructions of Chinese patent medicines for pediatrics, such as unlabeled contents, unnormalized indications, unclear usage and dosage, unknown contraindications and unclear precautions. This study provides a basis for further perfecting the instructions of Chinese patent medicines, and it is helpful to promote the safe and rational use of medicines for children.

(Telêmaco Borba, PR), região do médio Tibagi, centro-leste do Estado do Paraná.

Considering that most species of Brazilian felids are threatened with extinction and poorly known, understanding their behavior is of special interest. This research aimed to create a behavioral catalog in captivity for the Little spotted cat Leopardus tigrinus, the smallest felid species from Brazil. A male and a female were studied at the private collection of wild animals of Klabin S.A. (Telemaco Borba, PR. -24º 12' S and 50º 33' W), in the mid Tibagi region, east-central Paraná State. From March to July, 2003, 40 hours of qualitative observations were carried out to define the categories and identify the behavior. The quantitative observations followed the Focal animal method (Altmann, 1974). They took place during three consecutive days and 11 observation periods (33 days), with 107.2 hours for the male and 42.4 hours for the female. Each session lasted 15 minutes, and started at the beginning of each hour (from 06:00 AM to 06:00 PM), with five-minute intervals between individual recording. The categories found were: moving (05 behavioral acts), still (06), body care (03), comfort (02), exploratory (04), marking (04), excretory (02), vocal (05), agonistic interactions (06), peaceful interactions (02), acts related to the acquisition of food (05) and reproductive acts (04). The catalog is a compilation of all behavioral acts of the species. There are many possibilities and perspectives for the use of this catalog. It could be an important tool to better understand the behavioral patterns and help the management and well being of the species in captivity.

Many native and exotic plants are cultivated at urban environments, where they provide shade and appeal to our aesthetic sensibilities. Almost no research has been done on the Coccoidea associated with ornamentals in the Neotropics, although they seem especially well adapted for survival in urban ecosystems. The objective of this paper is to provide information about some scale insects families that attack ornamentals in Argentina. This work was accomplished by examining scale insects in Argentine collections, as well as by studying new material collected in the field, or sent for identification by colleagues throughout the country. Ninety species of Coccoidea were identified, belonging to eigth families, and 53 genera. Fifty-two species of Diaspididae, 15 Pseudococcidae, 18 Coccidae, only one species in Asterolecaniidae, Eriococcidae, Lecanodiaspididae, Margarodidae, and Ortheziidae families were found. Seventy-one species are cosmopolitans and 19 endemics. About 190 ornamental species in many different families were affected. A list of the scale insects in alphabetical order, hosts, distribution, economic importance, relevant bibliography, and an alphabetical host plants list, with the scale insects affecting them, are given.
