Résumé

Abstract Introduction Although teleworking emerged decades before the COVID-19 pandemic, the spread of the virus in 2020 resulted in faster and more widespread implementation of this work format. However, the lack of a dedicated workspace may pose ergonomic risks and increase the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders. Objective Understand the risks of repetitive strain injury (RSI) and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in teleworking from the perspective of employees at a public university. Methods A list of employees at a public university who were full or part-time teleworkers was obtained from the campus Personnel Department and used to select subjects for individual scripted interviews. The interviews were recorded and transcribed for thematic content analysis. Results Eight employees took part in the interviews, most of whom were women, aged between 33 and 64 years and from different professional categories. The interviewees reported ergonomic deficiencies, musculoskeletal symptoms, using individual preventive strategies, and the advantages of teleworking, among others. Conclusion There are still ergonomic-related risks of RSI/WRMDs, and despite changes made during the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains important to comply with preventive needs and improve knowledge management among workers.

A cross-sectional study was conducted with 315 participants between 18 and 65 years old. Internal consistency was adequate (α = 0.936; ω = 0.938). A confirmatory factor analysis was performed using the Lavaan package, leaving the scale with 30 items which fit the six original dimensions. There is also evidence of convergent and discriminant validity, the items' discrimination ability, differences by sex and age, and normative values for adults in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. The Spanish adaptation of the ders represents a valid and reliable tool to measure different aspects of the emotional regulation process.

Abstract: Emotion dysregulation is a multidimensional construct determined by maladaptive ways of responding to emotions. Emerging adults (i.e., aged from 18 to 25/30), particularly college students, are vulnerable to involvement in risky behaviors under emotions. The State Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (S-DERS) became suitable to measure facets of momentary emotion dysregulation in this population; however, there are no confirmatory studies or studies of adaptation to the Spanish language. The aim of this study was to examine psychometric properties of S-DERS. A sample of 178 Argentine emerging college-age adults was evaluated (18-28 years old; 53.9% women; Mage= 22.03; DE ± 2.06). Internal structure and consistency of the original model (i.e., S-DERS; four factors: Nonacceptance, Awareness, Clarity, Modulation) and an alternative model without Clarity (i.e., S-DERS-R; three factors) was analyzed. Both models presented a factor structure with satisfactory fit and acceptable values of internal consistency, with the exception of the Clarity subscale. Mainly to Nonacceptance and Modulation subscales, we observed evidence of convergent validity with two-trait emotion dysregulation scales, concurrent validity with a positive and negative affect scale, and predictive validity with an emotion arousal measure. Results show suitable sychometric properties. The S-DERS-R model (i.e., without Clarity factor) improves the model fit and maintains acceptable internal consistency values with respect to the S-DERS model. This instrument is expected to be useful in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of state emotion dysregulation in college students.

Résumé

Background: The understanding of how individuals manage their emotional experiences has flourished dramatically over the last decades, including assessing of emotion (dys) regulation. The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) is a well-validated and extensively used self-report instrument for emotion regulation problems. Despite the wide use of DERS in both clinical and research settings, its length potentially increases fatigue and frustration in respondents and limits its inclusion in brief research protocols. Consequently, a short-form version of the DERS (DERSSF) was developed, which requires cross-cultural adaptations and the study of its reliability and validity. Objectives: In order to address this issue, this study aimed to analyze the factorial structure and psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of DERS-SF and examine the DERS-SF factor structure invariance between men and women. Methods: The sample comprised 646 participants aged between 18 and 66 years (M = 29.93, SD = 11.71). Results: The correlated six-factor structure of the original version has an acceptable fit, good reliability, and convergent validity. Our results also suggested the invariance of the factor structure of the DERS-SF across genders. Conclusion: The DERS-SF has good psychometric properties, and it may be useful for future research and clinical work to use this six-factor brief version and improve emotion regulation assessment.

Objective. Evaluate three behavior management techniques: Systematic Desensitization (SD), the Treament and Education of Autistic and related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) and Tell, Show, Do (TSD) Method, during dental care for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Methods. Eighteen people from Northeast Mexico diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder participated, with a range of 13 to 15 years, divided in to three groups, according to the TEACCH, SD and TSD technique with six participants per group. A dental prophylaxis was performed on the participants, using the behavior management and communication technique according to the group, the behavior was evaluated using the Frankl's behavior rating scale (FBRS) and Comfort Behavior Scale (CBS). Chi square, ANOVA and Student's t tests were used to compare the results. Results. Behavior evaluated with Frankl scale was definitely positive in TE-ACCH (33.3%) and DS (16.7%) groups. Similar positive behavior in the three groups (66,7%). Similar negative behavior in DS and DMH (16.7%). Definitively negative behavior only in the DMH group (16.7%). With CBS scale, only the DMH group presented increased muscle tone (p= 0.013) and evident not sustained tension in some facial muscles (p= 0.001), when compared with TEACCH and DS by ANOVA analysis. Conclusions. The three techniques evaluated are effective for managing behavior of people with ASD during dental treatment, however, in DMH technique, definitely negative behavior and a corporal-behavioral response were observed, reflecting emotional stress.
