@#Objective To analyze the expression profiles of long non-coding RNAs(lncRNA)in hippocampus of alcoholdependent mice induced by double-bottle selective drinking. Methods The alcohol-dependent mouse model was established by double-bottle selective drinking method, and the control group was set up(drinking water). Three male mice with alcohol preference more than 60% and alcohol consumption more than 10 g/(kg·24 h)in alcohol group and random three male mice in control group were selected,of which bilateral hippocampal brain tissues were isolated and stored in liquid nitrogen. LncRNA and mRNA of mouse hippocampal brain tissue RNA samples were sequenced by using Agilent-084388 microarray, and the differential expression of lncRNA in samples was detected by using ncRNA microarray. The biological processes and signaling pathways involved in differential expression of lncRNA were clustered and enriched by Gene Ontology(GO)and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)analysis. Pearson correlation analysis was used to predict the coding genes co-expressed by each differentially expressed lncRNA. Hypergeometric distribution test was used to calculate the significance of differential gene enrichment in each corresponding transcription factor item, and Cytoscape software was used to draw a visual network diagram. Results Compared with the control group, totally 855 lncRNAs(FC ≥ 2. 0,P < 0. 05)were differentially expressed in the hippocampus of mice in alcohol group,of which 337 lncRNAs were up-regulated significantly, with NONMMUT025786.2 and NONMMUT072246.2 being the most up-regulated,and 518 significant downward adjustments were observed, with the largest downward adjustments being NONMMUT113098.1 and NONMMUT076455.1. There were 361 mRNAs differentially expressed in the two groups(FC ≥ 2. 0,P < 0. 05)with 271 mRNAs up-regulated significantly and 90 significant downward adjustments, among which, the most obvious up-regulated were Upf3b and Zfp943,and Adamts 13 and Ift 27 showed the largest downward adjustments. The differential expression of lncRNAs was most obvious in the positive regulation of cell surface,GTPase activity and cell vesicle transport; The main signaling pathways involved were propanoate metabolism, taurine metabolism, extracellular matrix receptor interaction and AMPK signaling pathway. The most abundant transcription factors were FOXL1 and LHX3,with 25 and 21 corresponding co-expressed genes, respectively. Conclusion Through high-throughput gene expression profile microarray analysis, the possible key regulatory sites of lncRNAs and mRNAs were obtained, which provided experimental basis for research of the molecular mechanism of alcohol dependence in the hippocampus.

RÉSUMÉ

ObjectiveBased on fluorescence lifetime imaging technology, a novel method for viscosity detection is proposed and the capability of different weighting of fluorescence lifetimes in distinguishing the viscosity of glycerol-water mixtures is evaluated, aiming to enhance the accuracy and reliability of viscosity differentiation. MethodsThis approach incorporates the principles of electronic weighting, introducing both amplitude-weighted average fluorescence lifetime (τm) and intensity-weighted average fluorescence lifetime (τi). Viscosity changes in glycerol-water mixtures are detected through τm and τi. τm Reflects the relationship between fluorescence signal amplitude and time, while τi focuses on the time-varying characteristics of fluorescence signal intensity. ResultsThe results of both τm and τi mutually corroborate each other, not only enhancing the reliability in detecting viscosity changes in glycerol-water mixtures but also revealing their unique roles in the detection process. Although τm plays a crucial role in capturing changes in fluorescence signal amplitude, τi exhibits higher accuracy in viscosity detection when considering the time-varying characteristics of fluorescence signal intensity. It is particularly noteworthy that, due to τi’s greater sensitivity, microenvironment viscosity detection can be directly analyzed using τi. This provides a more convenient approach for real-time, highly sensitive microfluidic viscosity monitoring. Therefore, through the comprehensive utilization of τm and τi, a more thorough and accurate understanding of the viscosity information in glycerol-water mixtures can be obtained, and specific parameters can be selected for in-depth analysis based on specific needs. ConclusionThe combination of amplitude weighting and intensity weighting allows for a more sensitive identification of subtle changes in viscosity under different conditions. The innovation of this method lies in its simultaneous consideration of multiple parameters, enhancing sensitivity and distinguishability to variations in viscosity. Therefore, this weighted-dependent fluorescence lifetime imaging technique not only introduces a novel approach for viscosity detection in glycerol-water mixtures but also provides a powerful analytical tool for various fields, including microfluidics, rheology, and research on novel functional materials.

INTRODUCTION: Smoking is considered a chronic nicotine addiction disease and a risk factor for serious illnesses such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, as well as being one of the main causes of preventable deaths worldwide. Tobacco control programs have achieved good results in recent decades, with a reduction in the number of smokers. However, drug and behavioral treatment is not 100% effective, with relapses and side effects for smokers. New challenges have been imposed following the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the health sector, where concerns about the impact on workers' health have been highlighted. In this scenario, the importance of caring for those who have been most exposed to the harmful effects of this period has been verified, looking not only at the psychological disorders of this population, but also at promoting the quality of life of the worker, especially the worker who presents a health risk behavior, such as the smoking worker. Aromatherapy, an Integrative and Complementary Health Practice supported by evidence of clinical effectiveness in a wide range of clinical conditions, was proposed as an intervention for this group. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of aromatherapy on nicotine dependence in workers who smoke. METHOD: A pilot, clinical, randomized, double-blind study using two essential oils, piper nigrum and angelica archangelica, by inhalation, in two groups of health workers, to evaluate the effect of these oils on levels of smoking dependence. The outcomes assessed were the level of nicotine dependence (primary outcome), measured using the Fagerstrom Test, and the measure of the participant's smoking load (secondary outcome). The study was carried out over a period of 30 days on the premises of a university hospital in the city of Belo Horizonte/MG with a population of 29 workers who were smokers. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS program version 21.0 and changes in levels of nicotine dependence and smoking load in the study were assessed using the paired Wilcoxon test. Associations between the categorized variables were made using Pearson's chi-square test. The effectiveness of the essential oils between the groups was assessed using the Mann-Whitney test. A significance level of 5% was set for all tests. RESULTS: The randomized groups were similar in most of the variables analyzed (p>0.05). There was a decrease in both smoking load and nicotine dependence after the intervention with essential oils in both groups (p<0.05), with the Angelica group starting the study with a moderate degree of dependence in the Fagerstrom test and moderate smoking load, and at the end showing low dependence and low smoking load. Similarly, the Black Pepper group exhibited a low nicotine dependence and low smoking load in the initial test and after the intervention, a very low dependence. Two male participants, each from an evaluated group, achieved abstinence. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) in effect size in relation to the type of essential oil used. CONCLUSION: The essential oils used in the study were effective in reducing nicotine dependence and the smoking burden of the subjects evaluated. There was no significant difference between the effect of EOs in the control group and the experimental group.

Background: Alcohol use and high-risk behaviour has been shown to have an association. Severity of alcohol dependence has an association with frequency of risk-taking behaviour. Objectives were to evaluate the frequency of high risk behaviour in alcohol dependence syndrome and to find any correlation between psychosocial variables and high risk behaviour. Methods: 100 individuals with ICD 10 diagnosis of alcohol dependence syndrome were studied using semi structured interview. High risk behaviour was assessed using violent risk appraisal guide and deliberate self-harm inventory. The age of onset of initiation of alcohol use and dependence and severity of alcohol dependence syndrome were assessed and analyzed by frequency and Chi square test. Results: In 100 subjects with alcohol dependence syndrome, 4 (17.4%) and 7 (30.4%) of subjects with severe dependence had road traffic accidents and risky sexual and violent behaviour respectively. There was a statistically significant association between age of onset, age of dependence and high-risk behaviour. Conclusions: The present study concluded that most individuals with alcohol dependence syndrome had high risk behaviour. Road traffic accident was the most common followed by risky sexual and violent behaviour. There was a significant association between severity of alcohol dependence and high risk behaviour.

Mapping of soil properties is an important operation as it plays an important role in the knowledge about soil properties and how it can be used sustainably. Knowledge of soil variability of any region is crucial for development of site-specific management practices for that region as this will enhance the crop productivity and maintain the good soil health. With this background, present study was conducted to quantify the spatial variability of different soil physical properties and soil available micronutrients in Ujjain tehsil (Ujjain) district of Madhya Pradesh state, India. A total one hundred fifty geo-coded surface (0-15 cm depth) soil samples, were collected across the study area. These samples were analyzed using standard method for different some soil properties viz: soil texture (sand, silt and clay) and soil available micronutrients, viz. extractable zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn) and iron (Fe) in laboratory. The range of sand, silt, clay, Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn in the study region were varied from 9.15 to 24.06 %, 24.00 to 41.55 %, 40.20 to 58.60 %, 0.12 to 1.66 mg kg-1, 2.06 to 6.22 mg kg-1, 3.70 to 10.40 mg kg-1, and 2.41 to 14.64 mg kg-1, respectively. The data were analyzed using standard statistical methods and geostatistics, which included creating semi-variograms and mapping by standard kriging procedures. Semi-variograms were produced for soil properties and their regional distributions were plotted. The observed soil parameters were best represented by four models: Exponential, Circular, Gaussian, and Hole effect. The modelled variables showed strong and moderate spatial dependencies, as demonstrated by the Nugget/Sill (Co/Co+C) ratio. The distribution maps of soil features may serve as a reference for implementing site-specific crop management in soils with comparable characteristics. Further, this research indicates the relevance of GIS- application in soil variability investigations.

In basketball, reaction speed is important: how quickly a player reacts to an external stimulus, finds the right solution and implements it on the playground, often determines the outcome of the match. The aim of the study is to analyze the peculiarities of the course of mental processes and to identify their relationship with the technical readiness of basketball players at the training stage of preparation. To assess mental processes, we used: a proofreading test, a test with a school ruler, an individual minute, and a tapping test. Standards were used to check technical readiness: the number of hits from 10 free throws, the time of the throw-in motion, and the total number of hits in the ring, shuttle running with ball driving (5x10). The study involved girls aged 15-16 years who had been playing basketball for at least 5 years and had sports grades. The basketball players were examined in September 2021 and May 2022. In this study we found statistical differences between the initial and final levels in terms of the number of errors in the proofreading test (27.91%, p<0.05), the reaction rate to a moving object (27.57%, p<0.05), the duration of the individual minute (13.59%, p<0.05), the result of the tapping test with the right and left hands (the differences were 21.82%, 15.46%, respectively, p<0.05), as well as the coefficient of functional asymmetry (35.67%, p<0.05). The data obtained require a deeper study of ways to increase the effectiveness of training activities that allow influencing traditional training.

RÉSUMÉ

The infiltration of water in the soil, and its variation in space, is essential to establish the irrigation schedule for crops and to evaluate the possible degrading effects on the soil. The objective was to develop an integrated processing methodology in Rstudio to identify the spatial variability of the accumulated infiltration, in two phases related to pea crops. Field sampling was carried out on a rectangular mesh with 48 points per moment, using double infiltrometer rings. The data were evaluated by means of geostatistical tools adjusted with programming code in Rstudio, defining the relationships between the magnitudes of the accumulated infiltration, for different test instants, without the need to make statistical adjustments to the normality of variables, discriminated over a period between 1 and 80 minutes. The results suggest the existence of spatial variability of the accumulated infiltration in the two evaluated phases, considering that most of the analyzed data were adjusted to multiple variance models, maintaining a degree of spatial dependence, and validating the effectiveness of the adjusted methodology developed and implemented. The spatial relationships were corroborated by means of contour maps, where the spatial variation of the accumulated infiltration between the two identified cultivation moments was observed. The reliability of the interpolation by the Ordinary Kriging method was verified by generating variance maps, establishing the degree of homogeneity of the interpolation. The variability of infiltration confirms the validity of the adjusted methodology implemented.

ObjectiveTo analyze the association between alcohol dependence and overweight and obesity among high school students. MethodsThis study adopted stratified cluster sampling method. Four high schools (one vocational high school included) were selected as the research sites. We used self-designed questionnaires to investigate the drinking behavior of high school students. This study used propensity score matching method to control confounding factors (e.g gender, school type, etc.). Then we compared the differences in drinking behavior between obese/overweight group and normal weight group after matching, and used a multivariate logistic regression model to analyze the relationship between drinking behavior and overweight and obesity. ResultsA total of 811 high school students participated in the survey. 60 people were excluded due to mild and moderate weight loss, and 751 people were normal or obese/overweight. After 1:1 propensity score matching, there were 217 people each in obese/overweight group and normal group. The characteristics of gender, school type, grade and family economic level of the two groups were balanced after matching. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05) between obese/overweight and normal group in the following: drinking of alcohol at high school, alcohol dependence, the maximum drinks at one time, drinking of alcohol at family gatherings, whether bought alcohol for others, whether their family members recommended drinking, whether they have tried to quit drinking in the past year, and the time of blush after drinking. The multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the degree of alcohol dependence (the alcohol use disorder score ≥ 8) was a risk factor for overweight and obesity (OR=3.600, 95%CI: 1.244‒10.424). Besides, having bought alcohol for others and family members advising alcohol consumption were suggested to be protective factors for overweight and obesity (OR=0.525, 95%CI: 0.309‒0.890 and OR=0.377, 95%CI: 0.222‒0.641). ConclusionHigh school students who have alcohol dependence suffer a higher risk of obesity/overweight, while high school students who may have drinking behaviors but do not have alcohol dependence have a lower risk of obesity/overweight. It is critical to guide young people on drinking in terms of health.
