Résumé

The purpose of this study was to identify which combination of zirconia crowns and cements is most similar in color to the maxillary primary incisors by varying the color of zirconia crowns, crown thickness, and shade of cements. Prefabricated zirconia crowns in 3 shades and crowns fabricated using 6 types of zirconia blocks were used in this study. These were filled with A2-shade or translucent-shade resin cement and the L(*), a(*), and b(*) values were calculated using a spectrophotometer. The color differences between the natural teeth and the zirconia crowns were assessed. The shade of the final restoration was more similar to that of the natural teeth using A2-shade than translucent-shade resin cement. Application of A2-shade cement to a 0.5-mm-thick crown fabricated from a smile series 2 zirconia block resulted in the color most similar to that of the natural teeth. A2-shade resin cement is recommended for zirconia crown restoration in anterior primary teeth compared to TR-shade resin cement for more esthetic restoration. Since restorations with Nusmile zirconia crowns were not esthetically favorable in terms of shade, improvement of the shade characteristics of the product or development of a new kind of zirconia crown is required.

Résumé

When restoring their anterior dentition, patients become more demanding on esthetics compared to posterior region during treatment planning phase. Digital Smile Design (DSD) procedure is performed in presentation software and digital photographs. This can widen diagnostic visualization and aid in transferring information between clinician, patient, and technician. This case presented is that of patient with dissatisfaction of his anterior old restoration. Retreatment procedures were carried out in two different manners: (1) using DSD protocol for diagnosis, smile simulation, communication and fabricating interim and definitive prosthesis by totally digitized workflow. (2) Using diagnostic wax-up for smile design and fabricating restorations by conventional workflow. Comparing two methods, DSD was easier to communicate between the dental team than the diagnostic wax-up method. But the final result obtained failed to meet total esthetic factors. Therefore, to obtain predictable esthetic results, more advanced design tool would be needed, including consideration of various esthetic factors besides successful communications.

Résumé

In the case of an extraction in the maxillary anterior region, immediate placement of implant-supported fixed prosthesis can be considered as a treatment option. Fewer surgical operations, reduced treatment time, and optimal availability of existing bone are obvious advantages of the method; however, when applied in the continuous maxillary anterior region, inter-implant distance must be carefully considered, as well as accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for predictable outcome. In this case report, immediate placement of two implants in the continuous maxillary anterior along with bone graft following the extraction of root rests, and the restoration of provisional and implant-supported fixed prosthesis on a 63-year-old patient had resulted in both esthetically and functionally satisfactory clinical outcomes.

Résumé

To achieve an esthetic restoration, visualized information considering the facial aspect of patient is required. As for the reasons of esthetic failure, it could be explained by lack of communication and information such as horizontal, vertical and esthetic line. Therefore, it is important to deliver that the visualized information to dental technicians or other dentists for the success of esthetic treatment. This case report presents the process of visualizing esthetic information and designing the restoration using a digital diagnostic tool; Digital Smile Design.

Résumé

BACKGROUND: Though implant dentistry is very successful and predictable in treatment of patients with destroyed dentition, there are some cases with limitations to implant therapy. In these cases, alternative treatment modality should be considered. CASE DESCRIPTION: A patient with destroyed dentition was rehabilitated with a lateral rotational path removable partial denture. According to the diagnosis, we determined to raise vertical dimension for esthetic and functional restoration. The final restoration was performed after four months of provisional period. CLINICAL IMPLICATION: The edentulous patients with compromised esthetics and functions can be successfully treated with a rotational path removable partial denture through adequate treatment planning and precise laboratory procedure.
