Giant basal cell carcinoma (GBCC) is an uncommon cutaneous tumor defined as a neoplasm largerthan 5 cm in diameter. Most of the affected patients neither present a chronic sun exposure historynor any significant risk factor.Negligence and inadequate treatments may undoubtedly contribute to this type of tumor.GBCC occurs must commonly on the trunk. Lesions greater than 10 cm in diameter have a highrate of metastasis. We report a 92-year-old woman with two such tumors located on the right zygomatic area andthe homolateral cheek. Surgical treatment was performed. After a follow up of two years no signsof dissemination or local recurrence have been detected.

Résumé

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of the skin. Most of the lesions are usually small, slow growing and rarely metastasize. However, giant basal cell carcinoma, which is defined as a lesion of more than 5 cm at its greatest diameter, is rare. Most giant basal cell carcinomas are of long duration, and neglect seems to be a major contribution to the development of giant basal cell carcinoma. Herein, we report a rare case of treating a recurrent giant basal cell carcinoma on the face of a Korean elderly woman with surgical excision.

Résumé

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) represents the most common cutaneous malignancy in caucasions. Most of the tumors usually occur on sun-exposed skin, and they are small and easily treated. Giant BCC is a rare variant of this tumor and is defined as a lesion greater than 5 cm at its largest diameter. For the development of giant BCC, several risk factors, including patient neglect, aggressive histological features and long duration, have been identified. We observed a very large BCC on the face and scalp of an elderly woman. She had been reclusive for a long time, and this problem might have played a crucial role in the development of the giant BCC.

Résumé

Giant basal cell carcinoma(BCC) is a clinical expression of a large-sized BCC, which can cause extensive local invasion and disfigurement and have a particular capacity for metastasis. In the development of this large tumor, several risk factors including patient neglect, aggressive histological features and long duration, are identified. We have observed a very large BCC on the forehead of anlderly man for more than 4 years. He had been suffering from psychiatric disease for a long time, and patient neglect due to this problem played a crucial role in the development of this giant BCC.
