Résumé

Background: Replacement of missing teeth has become a successful option ever since the discovery of Osseo-integration and introduction of implants in the dental field. It has proved to be a therapeutic breakthrough especially for edentulous people. Implants supported over dentures are becoming the first choice of treatment for edentulous patients as they provide various advantages over the conventional dentures most importantly enhancing the denture retention and stability. This article discusses the rehabilitation of a completely edentulous patient with a mandibular implant supported over-denture which drastically improved the oral health related quality of life.

Rehabilitation of patients suffering from cleft lip and palate surgery sequels is still a challenge for health professionals related to both surgical and prosthetic fields. These patients require a multi-disciplinary treatment able to offer the best possible rehabilitation alternative. The present article presents a case of total rehabilitation of a patient with sequels to cleft lip and palate surgery (loss of vertical dimension, nasal collapse, upper lip defect, upper and lower jaw discrepancies, oro-antral fistulae, absence of upper incisors) by means of a modified over-denture (with absence of endodontic treatment). Esthetic and functional results achieved with this treatment were satisfactory as well as achieved in a short period of time.

Résumé

Aim: The aim of this study was to document the influence of healing type on the marginal bone loss around dental implants placed in the anterior mandible. Materials and Methods: A total of 48 edentulous patients rehabilitated with 96 Astra Tech dental implants left to either submerged or nonsubmerged healing were included in the study group. The patients were examined in consecutive routine recall sessions six, 12, and 24 months after loading. The actual bone level measurements were performed by two independent examiners on panoramic X-rays, and the average of both examiners' calculations was used as the marginal bone level value. Results: The marginal bone loss (MBL) of the implants at 6 months was found to be significantly higher in the submerged healing group (P< 0.05). No statistically significant relation was found between the MBL of implants left to submerged healing and that of implants left to non-submerged healing in the other follow-up periods. Conclusion: In situations where the dental implant has good primary stability, non-submerged healing can be recommended to avoid a second surgery for healing abutment connection.

Résumé

Objective:To study retention force durability of root-type attachments. Methods:Five magnetic attachments(Magfit EX-600),semi-precise stud-type attachments(Bedent) and precise stud-type attachments(Dalbo-classic) were fixed on a thermal-cycling and mechanical-loading machine respectively. The retention force of each attachment was measured at the baseline and after every 1,000 cycles of seating-removing.Results:The average retention force of magnetic attachments was(3.85?0.107) N at the baseline which attenuated for 3.38% after 10,000 cycles; The retention force of semi-precise group was(14.10?0.144) N originally and decreased 90.06% of the original force after 10,000 cycles. The primary force of the precise group was 33.14 N and was adjusted to(11.95?0.082) N as baseline attenuating for 74.56%.Conclusion: The retention force of magnetic attachments is lower than the stud attachments but is stable for 10 years. The retention force of stud-type attachments is larger at the baseline but reduced rapidly.

Résumé

objective: To study the stress distribution of abutment dentin of mandibular complete overdenture based on post core abutment(COBPA). Methods: 3 D FEM was employed to investigate the stress distribution of abutment dentin of mandibular COBPA and natural abutment(NA) on standard model, the data were compared. Results: In the same loading condition, stress concentration was observed at the root end area of dentin in both COBPA and NA. When post core was applied decreased stress distribution area and increased stress value were found aroud tooth neck, decreased stress concentration was found at root end. Conclusion: In COBPA and NA the stress may be transferred to the root end along the axis. Apart from retention, post core can transfer and buffer the stress, change the way of stress transfer, and may result in cervical fracture.
