Résumé

ABSTRACT@#Most prior oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) research concerning temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) had utilised generic OHRQoL measures. This study aimed to translate and validate the Malay version of Oral Health Impact Profile for TMDs (OHIP-TMDs), a TMDs-specific OHRQoL tool, for use in Malay literate populations. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the OHIP-TMDs into the Malay language were implemented according to the international guidelines. A convenience sample of 243 subjects completed the Malay OHIP-TMDs (OHIP-TMDs-M) as well as the Malay Short Oral Health Impact Profile (S-OHIP-M), Global Oral Health ratings (GOH-M) and Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI-M). The OHIP-TMDs-M was re-administered to a subset of 40 subjects after two weeks for test-retest reliability. Concurrent, convergent and discriminative validity were assessed using Spearman’s rank correlation, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests with significance level set at p < 0.05. The OHIP-TMDs-M was found to have excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.98) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.99, p < 0.001). A strong and positive correlation with S-OHIP-M (rs = 0.74) was observed, and OHIP-TMDs-M scores differed significantly between subjects with disparate GOH-M ratings (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the OHIP-TMDs-M was able to discriminate between subjects with and without TMDs. The OHIP-TMDs-M was found to have excellent reliability and good validity. It is a promising tool for assessing TMDs-specific OHRQoL in Malay literate populations.

Résumé

BACKGROUND@#Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM) is a 50-item tool to assess the educational environment of medical institutions as perceived by the students. This cross-sectional study developed and validated an abridged version of the DREEM-50 with an aim to have a less resource-intensive (time, manpower), yet valid and reliable, version of DREEM-50 while also avoiding respondent fatigue.@*METHODS@#A methodology similar to that used in the development of WHO-BREF was adopted to develop the abridged version of DREEM. Medical students (n = 418) from a private teaching hospital in Madurai, India, were divided into two groups. Group I (n = 277) participated in the development of the abridged version. This was performed by domain-wise selection of items that had the highest item-total correlation. Group II (n = 141) participated in the testing of the abridged version for construct validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to assess the construct validity of DREEM-12.@*RESULTS@#The abridged version had 12 items (DREEM-12) spread over all five domains in DREEM-50. DREEM-12 explained 77.4% of the variance in DREEM-50 scores. Correlation between total scores of DREEM-50 and DREEM-12 was 0.88 (p < 0.001). Confirmatory factor analysis of DREEM-12 construct was statistically significant (LR test of model vs. saturated p = 0.0006). The internal consistency of DREEM-12 was 0.83. The test-retest reliability of DREEM-12 was 0.595, p < 0.001.@*CONCLUSION@#DREEM-12 is a valid and reliable tool for use in educational research. Future research using DREEM-12 will establish its validity and reliability across different settings.

Résumé

Objective To test the reliability and validity of self-management instrument for person with schizophrenia. Methods The instrument was psychometrically tested by using 396 people with schizophrenia among 8 mental health service centers in Beijing. The instrument was test by internal consistency analysis,test-retest reliability, exploratory factor analysis, confirmed factor analysis,known-groups validity. Results The Cronbach α coefficient of instrument was 0.96,Pearson coefficient was 0.791.Factor analysis of the instrument resulted in six factors:medication compliance, medication management, symptom management, maintain daily life and social functioning, manage health recourse and support, and self-efficacy.The six-factor solution accounted for 61.70% of the total variance. The results also showed that the newly developed instrument was positively correlated with PIH.The results also demonstrated that the instrument could discriminate patients' self-management ability according to their living status, work status, education background, and financial burden. Conclusion The newly developed instrument has adequate psychometric properties and may be useful in intervention program and assessing self-management in individuals with schizophrenia.

The EEP was initially composed of 20 items and was tested on 100 Chilean mothers with infants less that 12 months old. Contentvalidity analysis and discriminative analysis of the items was performed. The test demonstrated adequate internal consistency and factor analysisshowed two factors that explain the 63% of variance. The final version ofthe EEP has 10 items and gives a global score of the maternal self-efficacyin infants’ mothers. This preliminary test for the psychometric properties was acceptable; however, further analysis is suggested.
