Résumé

Lifestyle disorders are the diseases linked with one’s lifestyle. Nowadays, lifestyle disorders are becoming more widespread and affecting a majority of the population and posing a huge public health threat around the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), lifestyle disorder is a subgroup of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and accounts for around 71 percent of all deaths worldwide. Lifestyle disorders are caused mostly by poor diet and lack of physical activity. Distracting the people from physical exercise and their attraction towards sedentary lifestyle can lead to a variety of health problems including chronic non-communicable diseases with life-threatening issues. Hypertension, diabetes, PCOS, cancer, arthritis, obesity, insomnia, depression are the diseases which can be taken under lifestyle disorders. Ayurveda, science of life, aims in fundamental goal of maintaining health of healthy people and treatment of disease in sick one’s. To sustain a healthy and joyful life (Hitaayu & Sukhaayu), Ayurveda has a number of different principles and regimens including Ahara and Vihar (dietary habits and daily routine), Dinacharya (daily regimen), Ratricharya (night regimen), Ritucharya (seasonal regimen), Panchkarma (five detoxification and bio-purification therapies), Rasayana (rejuvenation), Sadvritta paalan (ideal habits) and Aachara Rasayana (code of conduct). Hence, lifestyle disorders can be well managed through Ayurveda by adopting its different principles and regimens.

The first and foremost aim of Ayurveda - “Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam Aaturasya Vikara Prashamanam Cha” is to maintain a healthy state of life and to remain free from the burden of diseases and sufferings so as to accomplish the ultimate goal of human life. To achieve this objective, Ayurveda has advocated certain percepts and rules which can ensure the normal functioning of human body without any hindrance. Ayurveda has suggested schedules of Swasthvritta including Dincharya, Ratricharya, Ritucharya, Rasayana, and Sadvritta as some of the practices and methods that leads to a happy, healthy and long life. In Ayurveda general principles to prevent psychic disturbances, practices preventing psychosomatic disturbances, practices regarding codes of general ethics in diet, behaviour, study, self-control etc. are explained as parts of Sadvritta. True efforts made for the observation of these schedules and conduct give rise to the effects of rejuvenation therapy called Aachar Rasayana that promotes longevity without any attack of diseases. Rasayana is one of the comprehensive disciplines of Ayurveda, which comprises a specialized use of herbs, herbo-mineral formulations, food articles and lifestyle along with self-discipline with social etiquette to achieve the optimum state of tissues that there is least effect of etiological factors on body. A careful analysis of qualities of Aachar Rasayana reveals that most of them are related to Mana, Dhi, Dhriti, along with good conduct. It inculcates the discipline related to mind, character, social, religious and personal life, so as to accord with the happiness and good of the individual and the society as a whole.

Résumé

COVID-19 is global pandemic, indicating significant global spread of an infectious disease. COVID -19 pandemic has led to unprecedented and unanticipated challenges requiring collective actions and rules so, COVID appropriate behavior to fight the spread are being affectively led by central government and state government. There is need to reinforce the importance of preventive measures and practices in sustained manner to deal with the disease over the long run. Ayurveda is one world抯 oldest holistic approach which deals with the prevention and management of the disease. A healthy education system should have codes of conduct for work place, society and family. Ayurveda has explained these codes of conduct under the tittle Sadvritta. Ayurveda emphasizes on social and personal behavior as they both affect mental and physical aspects of health. The codes explained in Ayurveda texts plays important role for the reduction of the highly spreading corona virus which in the present scenario can be related to the COVID appropriate behaviors which are critical to winning this fight against the deadly virus. In this article an attempt has been made for explaining the leads of COVID appropriate behavior in ayurveda Samhita.

Résumé

Samrat Ashoka was the grandson of Chandragupta and he founded the Mauryan dynasty empire about 324 B.C. Ashoka built a large number of inscriptions on rocks and pillars to propagate Buddhist message of loving kindness. He was the follower of Buddhist thought after Kalinga war. He had dug wells and planted trees and medicinal plants along the roads for human beings as well as animals. The fundamental principles of Ayurveda have been based on Indian philosophical sciences such as Aastika and Nastika Darshan. Ancient Indian history has been written mainly based on texts/literatures but there was some role of coins sand inscriptions also. The total number of incretions inscribed on rocks, pillars, caves by Samrat Ashoka has reached 42 but in this article only two (Girnar’s second and Dhauli’s first Shilalekh) which is related to Ayurveda has been reviewed.
