Résumé

The finding of a sebaceous carcinoma in a mature teratoma is rare in human pathology, with fewer than 10 cases currently reported in the literature. In this article, we report a case of sebaceous carcinoma in a mature teratoma of the ovary in a 59-year-old patient and discuss its histological findings.

Résumé

Sebaceous carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor differentiated from the adnexal epithelium of sebaceous glands and forms less than 1% of all cutaneous malignancies. We present a case of a 93-year-old woman with a rapidly growing mass on the right cheek. Initial histiopathologic finding was basal cell carcinoma. The mass was widely excised and superficial parotidectomy was performed while preserving the facial nerve branches. The resulting defect was covered with a transposition flap from the ipsilateral posterior auricular area and the donor site was closed primarily. However, histopathologic examination of the excised mass showed a poorly differentiated sebaceous carcinoma with a clear resection margin. The diagnosis of sebaceous carcinoma can be difficult to make at initial presentation. This report describes a rare case of a rapidly growing extraocular sebaceous carcinoma, which resulted in a good treatment outcome, and provides a review of relevant literature.

Résumé

Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid is a very rare slow-growing tumor and is considered an aggressive eyelid neoplasm. It can reach mortality rate of about 6 percent. Diagnosis is often delayed because of its ability to masquerade as other periocular lesions, both clinically and histologically. We present three cases of sebaceous carcinoma, with different surgical outcomes, showing the importance of early diagnosis.

Sebaceous adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva are relatively uncommon diseases which usually develop in the upper eyelid and limbus. They spread to the adjacent bulbar and tarsal conjunctiva, cornea and sclera but their intraocular invasions are very rare. In our country, sebaceous adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma which occurred independently was reported, but no case of sebaceous aoenocarcinoma combined with squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva was reported. We experienced a case of tumor at right upper tarsal conjunctiva in a 76-year-old Korean woman. Histopathologic examination revealed sebaceous adenocarcinoma combined with moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma.
