Résumé

Abstract Soybean meal is an inexpensive plant origin protein which has been used in practical diets as a replacement of animal protein such as fish meal or chicken meal, due to the uneconomical price of animal protein diets. Consequently, a research study was conducted on some commercial species of Indian major carps i.e. Catla (Cattla cattla), Rohu (Labeo rohita) and Mrigala (Cirhinus mrigala) (Hamilton, 1822) to estimate optimum dietary protein requirement of soy bean meal in diet in an intensive polyculture. Three different diets (SBM I, SBM II and SBM III) were formulated by 80%, 50% and 20% replacement of fish meal with soybean meal from a 45% fish meal diet (control).Highest monthly mean weight gain was obtained by SBM II (with 35% CP and about 50% substitution of fish meal), while SBM III (45% Crude Protein and about 20% substitution of fish meal) was stood second. All tested diets respond enormously by producing high yield as compare to control diet, though SBM II generated highest yield among all. On the bases of the following research, it was revealed that the SBM can surrogate even50% fish meal without any augmentation of other amino acids in the diet of Indian major carps.

Since ancient times, poor nutrition has been the primary culprit of iron deficiency, especially in the school going adolescent girls. There may be a number of factors that contribute to this. The production of affordable, wholesome, and practical foods is a challenge for the food industry. Spirulina platensis, a microscopic and filamentous cyanobacterium is a blue-green algae that is considered to be one of the ancient life forms on Earth. To increase the nutritive value and to provide other vital nutrients, best wholesome cereals must be chosen over or in combination with refined flour. Here, quinoas, soy flour and amaranth come in the picture. The preparation of pancake premix and the final product was done in the department of food and nutrition, school of home sciences , BBAU Lucknow in the duration of nine months from September 2023 to May 2023. The assessment was successful and yielded genuine beneficial outcomes. The spirulina pan cakes excel in terms of flavour, aroma, and mouth feel. The panellists found the pancake's green tint to be somewhat objectionable.

Introduction: Knowledge of local aerobiology is essential for allergists. Because airborne allergens can sensitize the population and lead to allergic respiratory diseases, they must be routinely monitored for the effects of climate change, pollution, and agroindustry. Objective: To verify the airborne presence and concentration of the main soy hull dust allergen (Gly m 1) in Maringá, PR, Brazil and possible associations with climatic factors. Soybeans were selected due to the high prevalence of this crop in this region. To date, only 1 pilot study (conducted by our group) has evaluated this allergen's presence in Brazil. Methods: Atmospheric material was collected between March 2017 and March 2018 in 24- or 48-hour intervals, totaling 70 samples, of which 10 were excluded due to technical problems. The samples were tested for Gly m 1 using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and all samples showed detectable levels of the allergen. Results: The median concentration of Gly m 1 was 4.89 ng/m3, with values ranging from 0.66 ng/m3 to 1826.1 ng/m3. Of the 60 samples, 23% showed values > 90 ng/m3, with June 2017 and March 2018 having the highest concentrations. There was a positive correlation between Gly m 1 concentration and maximum, mean, and minimum temperatures, relative humidity, wind, and insolation. Conclusion: The data show that the population is constantly exposed to the Gly m 1 allergen, sometimes at high levels, which may lead to sensitization and symptoms.

Nowadays agriculture occupies an extremely important role both in the global and national scenarios. Its included in a very challenging context due to the forecast of increased world population and consequent higher demand for food. At the same time, it is the most affected economic sector by the climate change effects, which have been causing frequent and harsh impacts. One of the main effects is the change in the rainfall pattern worldwide, which causes severe and long-lasting droughts, responsible for causing crops to fail and therefore putting food production at risk. The current available mitigation measures to address hydric scarcity require a huge investment for implementation and maintenance or do not present a satisfactory and safe ecotoxicological profile. Chemically modified natural polymers have been evaluated in terms of performance and ability to provide the plants with higher water availability through hydric retention. The results obtained show that such ionic group modified polymers are able to promote better water management in a given microenvironment surrounding the seeds and ultimately delivery a higher yield to soy crops. The technology's mode of action has been elucidated through field capacity determination trials, ellipsometry, atomic force microscopy, soy germination trials under hydric stress and, finally, implementation of soy areas under actual field conditions by applying the polymers via seed treatment and in-furrow methods. Both intra- and intermolecular interaction between soil particles, polymer and water molecules have been proven as key to understanding the agricultural performance improvement of the modified polymers when compared to the control. The technology is recommended for agricultural applications due to its ability to boost the effect of water-dependent technologies, promoting higher yields

Résumé

Background: The oleo-gum resin of Boswellia serrata contains pentacyclic triterpenic acids known as Boswellic acids (BAs) that are responsible for the anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activities by inhibition of 5-lipoxygenase. Methods: Soylecithin based tablet formulation of an enriched extract of BAs were formulated and evaluated comparatively with the unformulated extract for bioavailability on rabbits and therapeutic efficacy against arthritis on rats targeting two primary constituent 11-keto ?-boswellic acid (KBA) and 3-O-acetyl 11-keto ?-boswellic acid (AKBA). Total BAs content in the enriched fraction was measured and characterized by HPLC analysis. Soy lecithin based tablet of BAs enriched extract was prepared and evaluated for different parameters. Tablets at 160 and 320 mg/kg, and unformulated extract 160 mg/kg was assessed on CFA-induced arthritic rat model and bioavailability was evaluated on the rabbit. Results: Tablet formulation showed two times higher efficacy in increasing hot plate reaction time, reduction in paw volume, and TNF-? levels compared to unformulated extract signifying enhanced systemic absorption and availability of the BAs at the site of action. The tablet at 320 mg/kg dose showed repair of articular surfaces with small areas of erosion and irregularities in the connective tissue. Plasma samples of rabbit showed identified peaks only for KBA. Conclusion: The soy lecithin based tablet of BAs enriched extract at both doses showed higher peak plasma concentration and AUC compared to unformulated enriched extract. The results of the study substantiated higher efficacy and bioavailability of B. serrata gum resin enriched extract in the form of lecithin based tablet formulation.

Résumé

In this study, we aimed to develop foods with antitumor and complementary effects against cisplatin (CDDP)-resistant bladder cancer. UMUC3, a human bladder cancer cell line was exposed to CDDP and cultured over a prolonged period to prepare UMUC3-CR, a CDDP-resistant subline. Androgen receptor mRNA expression was high in the UMUC3-CR subline. Genistein and vitamin C suppressed UMUC3-CR tumor growth. Additionally, the liberal intake of cheese in parental cell UMUC3-transplanted mice was associated with prolonged survival. Therefore, we created konjac jelly (KIK300) containing soy milk, cheese, and vitamin C as the main ingredients. Liberal administration of KIK300 to UMUC3-CR-transplanted mice suppressed tumor growth and reduced vascular endothelial growth factor mRNA expression. Furthermore, we observed no weight loss in the animals, their skin condition improved, and exercise capacity was improved. In conclusion, this study suggests that KIK300 may show antitumor and complementary effects on CDDP-resistant bladder cancer.

@#Introduction: Low glycaemic snacks may help to improve blood glucose control. However, data on the effect of soybean snack bars on postprandial glucose levels of the diabetic population is scarce. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine the effect of consuming soy flour snack bars on glycaemic response (GR) over a 180-minute period in individuals with diabetes by estimating postprandial glucose levels variation and total area under the curve (AUC). Methods: Nine subjects (age: 54.6±4.0 years; BMI: 25.0±2.5 kg/m2) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) diagnoses without complication enrolled in this randomised, open-label, cross-over trial. On three separate sessions, they consumed glucose standard solution, soy flour snack bar (SF), and wheat flour snack bar (WF) containing 25 g of available carbohydrate, respectively. Finger prick capillary method was executed to measure blood glucose levels at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 minutes after test product ingestion. Results: Overall, significantly lower postprandial glucose levels were observed at 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes (122.3±17.6, 136.3±24.9, 125.7±25.3, and 107.2±24.1 mg/dL; p<0.001) in those who consumed SF snack bars than WF snack bars (147.9±41.3, 168.0±43.6, 152.6±30.0, and 140.6±33.4 mg/dL). The AUC level after the ingestion of SF snack bar was 2044.8±503.1 mg.min/dL, >20% lower compared to ingestion of WF snack bar (4735.0±666.8 mg.min/dL), p<0.001. These glycaemic control benefits can be explained due to the high fibre and protein content linked to the physicochemical properties of SF. Conclusion: With high nutritional properties, SF snack bar has a low GR and might help control blood glucose in T2DM subjects.

Introduction: Obesity has been identified as a chronic state of systemic inflammation known as lipoinflammation. In recent times, the discovery of key molecules acting as therapeutic targets, as well as their connections and existing mechanisms, has gained relevance. On the other hand, it is known how difficult it is to obtain new natural drugs as alternatives or complementary therapies in chronic noncommunicable diseases such as obesity and dyslipidemias. LECISAN® stands out as a candidate, for its potentialities. Objective: To assess the results of preclinical and clinical investigations that support the use of LECISAN®. Methods: A systematic and critical review of evidence about the impact of the effects of soy lecithin was carried out. Articles published preferably in the last ten years were consulted, from the EBSCO, Google Scholar, Latindex, Redalyc, DOAJ, Dialnet, WorldCat, LILACS, SciELO and OATD databases. Conclusions: LECISAN® is a natural product that goes beyond the context of its use as a nutritional supplement, but requires new research in the field of pharmacology. The results regarding its possible effects and uses are contradictory and inconclusive, based on hypotheses that relate an emulsifying action with the phospholipids present in the mixture, the antioxidant effects with isoflavones, the anti-inflammatory effects with the polyunsaturated fatty acids that regulate lipid metabolism, as well as the activation of the phospholipase A2 system with the consequent production of inflammatory cytosines(AU)

Résumé

Abstract Background: Soybean milk by-product (SMBP) is a potential alternative feed ingredient in swine diets due to its high protein content. However, information on energy and nutritional values of SMBP used as swine feed ingredient is limited. Objective: To estimate energy values and protein digestibility of SMBP in pigs based on in vitro assays. Methods: Four SMBP samples were obtained from 3 soybean milk-producing facilities. In vitro total tract disappearance (IVTTD) and in vitro ileal disappearance (IVID) of dry matter (DM) in the SMBP samples were determined. In vitro ileal disappearance of crude protein was determined by analyzing crude protein content in undigested residues after determining IVID of DM. Digestible and metabolizable energy of SMBP were estimated using gross energy, IVTTD of DM, and prediction equations. Results: Sample 4 had greater IVTTD of DM than that of sample 3 (97.7 vs. 94.4%, p<0.05), whereas IVID of DM in sample 4 was lower compared with sample 1 (53.5 vs. 65.0%, p<0.05). In vitro ileal disappearance of crude protein in sample 2 was greater than that in sample 1 and 3 (92.6 vs. 90.6 and 90.1%; p<0.05). The estimated metabolizable energy of SMBP ranged from 4,311 to 4,619 kcal/kg as-is basis and the value of sample 3 was the least (p<0.05) among SMBP samples. Conclusion: Energy values and protein digestibility should be determined before using SMBP in swine diets.

Abstract The aim of this study was to develop two competitive enzyme immunoassays (CEI) to detect the presence of traces of soy and milk in gluten-free products. Specific rabbit polyclonal antiserums against soy protein and other against elemilk protein were used as primary antibodies. Optimal antigen concentrations to be immobilized on the plate and primary antibody concentrations to be used in competition were determined. The calibration curves were fitted using increasing concentrations of an extract of soy product and of defatted milk powder. The soy product and the defatted milk were extracted with Tris-HCl buffer 0,0625 M with 3% sodium dodecyl sulfate and 2% sodium sulfite 0.1 M. The validation parameters were evaluated: linearity, limit of detection and quantification, recovery and precision on the day and in between days. They were appropriate. Nine commercial samples of gluten-free products were analyzed with these developed CEI and commercial ELISA kits. It was observed that both CEI behaved similarly with respect to the commercial kits. The enzyme immunoassays confirmed the presence of milk in samples that declared it. In some samples that did not declare the presence of milk or soy, both enzyme immunoassays detected their presence -these results were confirmed using commercial kits. The developed CEI have a lower cost than the commercial kits, so these could be used as screening methods. When this methodology is negative, it should be confirmed with a more sensitive (commercial) method to ensure the absence of soy or milk protein.

The demand for food in the world grows year after year due in part to population growth, but also to the improvement of emerging markets. Brazil is one of the largest food producers in the world. In 2017, its cereal, legume and oilseed crops totaled 238.6 million tons, 29.2% more than the year before. Much of the great increase in productivity is due to the incorporation of transgenic seeds, especially cotton, maize and soybean, which possess genes that will increase plant's adaptability to harsh soil and water conditions and, resistance to pests, but also tolerance to herbicides. Virtually, all transgenic soybeans planted in Brazil are resistant to glyphosate, the herbicide initially launched on the market by Monsanto in the 1970s under the trade name Roundup. Due to the existence of several transgenic crops tolerant to glyphosate, such as soy, wheat, corn and canola, this product is the most commercialized herbicide in the world. The use of glyphosate allows the sowing of transgenic crops immediately after application, making the planting and maintenance processes very practical. Soybeans, such as other transgenics, have biological safety already well defined, but the use of glyphosate is still an extremely controversial subject. This review presents some historical aspects of the binomial Roundup Ready soybean/glyphosate and discusses the most recent controversies about the use of glyphosate in Brazil and worldwide.(AU)

@#Introduction: This study investigated the effect of combined plant-based protein supplementation and resistance training on muscular strength, blood markers of protein catabolism, immune function, and bone metabolism in sedentary adult males. Methods: In this randomised, double-blinded study, 28 healthy males aged 19 – 29 years old were equally assigned into four groups: a combined plant-based protein with resistance training (PBPEX), plant-based protein alone (PBP), resistance training alone (EX) and control (C). Mode of resistance training was flat barbell press, machine shoulder press, wide grip lateral pull-down, seated cable row, barbell back squat, leg press and leg extension. The 8-week resistance training involved three sets of 60-70% of one-repetition maximum (1-RM) at 4-6 repetition/set/mode per session, three sessions/week. Participants in PBPEX and PBP groups consumed a plant-based protein supplement consisted of 9.8 g soy and pea protein for seven days/week. Results: PBPEX showed significant increases (p<0.01) in the knee and shoulder flexion peak torque compared to EX groups, respectively. PBP showed a significantly higher level (p<0.05) of serum urea, and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) compared to other groups. There were no changes in immune function and bone metabolism markers between pre- and post-exercise in all groups. Conclusions: These findings implied that a combination of plant-based protein supplementation and resistance training elicited greater beneficial effects on muscular strength than resistance training alone and plant-based protein supplementation alone. Therefore, combined plant-based protein with resistance training may be recommended in planning exercise and nutritional programme for sedentary male adults.

Résumé

Aims@#Bacterial lysate has been reported to possess many health-care-related benefits. This study aimed to determine the optimum conditions for producing Weissella confusa MBF8-1 lysate in two plant-based modified De Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS) media using the response surface methodology (RSM). In this study, we applied several condition factors and compared them to standard MRS media. @*Methodology and results@#Weissella confusa MBF8-1 was grown in two modified MRS media, which are MRS Vegitone and soy peptone modified-MRS. The optimized fermentation condition factors such as nitrogen sources (i.e., soy peptone, proteose peptone), dextrose concentrations, and fermentation time were measured, and the responses, such as bacteriocin-like inhibitory substance (BLIS) activity and lysate pH were observed. RSM results showed the diameter of BLIS activity-inhibition zone and pH decreases of the lysate produced in MRS Vegitone containing 1.50% dextrose, 0.75% proteose peptone for 11.75 h fermentation and in soy peptone modified-MRS containing 2.05% dextrose, 1.05% soy peptone for 7.53 h fermentation, i.e., 7.41 mm at 7.36, and 7.80 mm at 7.30, respectively. Whereas, lysate produced in standard MRS medium containing 2% dextrose, 1% peptone for 8 h fermentation showed 7.85 mm diameter of BLIS activity-inhibition zone at pH 7.26. W. confusa MBF8-1 lysate showed slightly lower pH, but higher BLIS activity when grown in standard MRS media compared to those of the two modified MRS media. @*Conclusion, significance and impact of study@#The data obtained provide the optimum condition of W. confusa MBF8-1 lysate production in plant-based media. The pH and BLIS activity possessed by W. confusa MBF8-1 lysate produced in soy peptone modified-MRS showed a more similar result as the standard one than the other modified one. Thus, the soy peptone modified-MRS is recommended as a plant-based alternative medium replacing standard MRS.
