Introduction: the bone is in constant remodeling to maintain the skeletal structure, having a cycle of resorption by osteoclasts and formation of new bone by osteoblasts, the bone is also susceptible to systemic diseases, trauma, age and genetic disorders that affect bone remodeling, producing a massive loss of bone mass regulated by hormones, cytokines, enzymes, etcetera. The objective is to perform a systematic review of articles that show a change or alteration when using micro-vibration and pharmacological treatments on cathepsin K in the alveolar bone. Material and methods: in order to make a comparison between the effectiveness of micro-vibration and cathepsin K inhibitor treatments, a systemic review was carried out in nine databases (Wiley Online Library, PubMed, Google Academic, Scopus, ScienceDirect, SciELO, Medline, EBSCO and Springer Link). The study population was rats and mice. Results: this study included 20 articles whose research was carried out in clinical studies. In the results we can see how all the treatments in some way improve the bone remodeling process, it is difficult to compare which treatment within each group is better than the other, because the results expressed are qualitative. Conclusion: according to the results expressed, it is decided that it is better to perform a treatment with micro vibrations because the use of cathepsin K inhibitors are not yet fully developed and their consequences are not understood due to their systemic way of acting (AU)

Résumé

@#
BACKGROUND: Painful procedures intensify hospital-related stress and anxiety leading to unpleasant experience that can adversely affect procedure outcomes and health seeking behaviors.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of a cold vibrator device on pain perception of children aged 6-12 years old during Mantoux Test at the Out-Patient Department of the Philippine Children's Medical Center.

METHODOLOGY: This is a single blinded, randomized control trial where one-hundred four (104) subjects were randomly assigned to experimental (54 subjects) and control group (50 subjects) through fishbowl method. The experimental group received the cold vibrator prior to Mantoux test while the control group received the Mantoux test alone. Pre and post procedural heart rate, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation were obtained. The responses were evaluated using the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Scale.

RESULTS: Pain score was higher in the control group. Wilcoxon Rank-Sum Test showed mean rank of 67.5 with aggregated pain rank of 3645.00 compared to experimental group (with cold vibrator) of 36.3 with aggregated pain rank of 1815.00 with a p value 0.0000000046. There was no significant difference between the physiologic parameters (heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation) before and after procedure between the two groups.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION: The use of the cold vibrator was effective in reducing pain perception. It can be used as an adjunct to mitigate pain for needle-related procedures. Demographic data could also be correlated to the pain scores of the subjects.

Résumé

A micro droplet generator based on V-shape linear ultrasonic motor was prepared to produce micro droplets with higher accuracy in the field of biochemistry. The device was composed of a micro droplet generator which was driven by the V-shaped linear ultrasonic motor, a three-dimensional displacement platform based on V-shaped linear ultrasonic motor, and a micro droplet separation unit based on the piezoelectric vibrator. The generating part consisted of an ultrasonic motor, a medical syringe, a silica flexible tube and a self-made micro nozzle based on glass.Utilizing the drive controller to drive the linear ultrasonic motor, the slipway pushes forward the syringe and the micro droplet was attached to the glass nozzle. The natural mode of the rod nozzle was excited by the piezoelectric vibrator. The attached droplet was separated from the tip of the nozzle after overcoming the viscous force. The separated droplet fell in a certain range. And the radius of the spherical droplet was calculated. In the experiment, distilled water was used as the initial liquid to investigate the characteristics of the micro droplets produced by the device. The experimental results showed that the droplet was attached to the tip of the micro nozzle which was formed by distilled water under the linear motor.By the vibration of the separation unit, the attached droplets formed the spherical droplets by overcoming the viscous forces in the tip of the nozzle. The radius of spherical droplets generated by this device was less than 40 μm by measuring the size.

Résumé

OBJECTIVE: The study was designed to document the effects of regular drainage after penile vibrator stimulation on the quality of semen in spinal cord injured (SCI) men. METHOD: Three tetraplegics and eight paraplegics, aging from 20 to 39 years with neurological levels of C7 to L4 were examined between 1 and 11 years after injury (mean; 4 years 11 months). None had ejaculated after the injury. Eleven responders to penile vibrator stimulation (PVS) were prospectively examined. We used a vibrator (POWER MASSAGER ) with a frequency of 100 Hz and an amplitude of about 2.0 mm. Stimulations were performed mostly 2~3 times per week. Semen quality was characterized by semen analysis every visits. We compared baseline values with the values of post-treatment 1~3 months. RESULTS: The percentage of motile sperm and the total count of motile sperm per ejaculate were low but increased substantially with treatment. CONCLUSION: We concluded that repeated ejaculation treatment, for at least 1 month, using the vibrator technique improves semen quality in SCI men who have not ejaculated earlier after injury.
