Résumé

Objective To compare the load of EB virus in peripheral white blood cell, plasma and serum in the patients with he-matologic diseases, and to discuss the feasibility of detecting EB virus load by using plasma or serum instead of peripheral white blood cell. Methods Venous blood of 125 patients with hematologic diseases were collected, and peripheral white blood cell, plasma and serum were isolated. The real-time quantitative PCR was used to detect the virus load in three kinds samples with the EB virus load in peripheral blood cell as the gold standard. Results Compared to peripheral white blood, the EB virus load in plasma and ser-um showed no statistical difference(P >0.05).Conclusion Using plasma or serum instead of peripheral white blood cell for con-ducting the quantitative detection of the load of EB virus will be a reliable method.

Résumé

Objective To investigate the association between peripheral white blood cell (WBC) count and the carotid intimal-medial thickness (cIMT) in middle-aged and elderly Chinese of suburban area of Shanghai. Methods A total of 2 519 subjects aged 40 years or older from Jiading District,Shanghai were recruited to undergo questionnaire interview, anthropometric measurements, fasting blood sampling, and carotid B-mode ultrasonography. After excluding subjects with biochemical index missing,WBC count > 10× 109/L as well as those with known myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, coronary heart disease, and those taking lipid-lowing agents,2 239subjects were included in this analysis. Results Increased WBC count was associated with more unfavorable metabolic risk profiles. With the increasing quartiles of WBC count,cIMT were 0.558,0.570,0.573,and 0.587mm respectively(P for trend < 0.01).As compared with participants in the first WBC quartile, the risks of cIMT thickening were increased by 79%,109% in males and 29% in females (P> 0.05 in females).Multiple linear regression model showed that peripheral WBC count was an independent risk marker for cIMT thickening, especially for neutrophil and monocyte count. Conclusion A high-normal WBC count was significantly associated with cIMT thickening in middle-aged and elderly Chinese of suburban area of Shanghai, especially in males.

Résumé

To evaluate the effects of acupuncture on the immune system, the leukocyte, monocytes, lymphocyte and lymphocyte surface markers, CD2, CD4, CD8, CD11b, CD16, CD19 and CD56 in the peripheral blood of seventeen healthy volunteers were counted. The leukocyte above CD+ cell counts significantly increased after acupuncture. The results indicate that acupuncture may regulate the immune system and can increase the activity of cellular and humoral immunity and NK cell.<br>According to the percentage of lymphocytes or granulocytes, volunteers were divided into two types, those with more than 70% of granulocyte were recognized as G type and those with more than 40% of lymphocyte were divided into L type. Interestingly, before and after the treatment of acupuncture, the number of granulocytes and lymphocytes had a negative relationships. Namely we found an increase in the lymphocytes as well as a decrease in the granulocytes in the G type. On the other hand in the L type, we found an increase in the granulocytes and a decrease in the lymphocytes. Therefore we suggest that acupuncture can enhance the activity that maintains the balance of the immune function.

Résumé

Objective To investigate the effects of sepia on stem cells, granulocyte and monocyte progentior cells and peripheral WBC in mice. Methods Different dosages of sepia were given to normal and model mice with hematopoietic system impairment respectively. The numbers of CFU-S,CFU-GM and peripheral WBC in normal and model mice were measured respectively with the method of hematopoietic progenitor cells cultured in vitro and the technique of experimental hematology. Results Sepia could enhance the number of CFU-S,CFU-GM and peripheral WBC in normal mice significantly, resist the decrease of CFU-S,CFU-GM,and peripheral WBC in model mice of hemapoiecsis impaired effectively and promote the restoration of those indices mentioned above in model mice significantly. Conclusion Sepia has significant effects on stimulating granulopoiesis in bone marrow in mice. The mechanism may be related to regulating immunological function and inducement GM-CSF and other sorts of cellular factors, which in turn promote the multiplication differentiation of CFU-S and CFU-GM.
