@#Adherence to reporting guidelines contributes to report methodology and outcomes of research distinctly and transparently. There are some checklists with specific study types related to surgery on the EQUATOR Network’s website. However, the IDEAL framework focuses on stepwise evaluation of surgical innovation through all stages with some key elements, which those existing guidelines may not mention. This likely results in the inaccuracy in reporting in studies attempting to follow the IDEAL recommendations and suggests a pressing need for IDEAL reporting guidelines. Considering these limitations, the IDEAL developed the IDEAL reporting guidelines between October 2018 and May 2019. The paper aimed to provide interpretation of IDEAL reporting guideline, and promote its understanding and use among Chinese researchers.

Introduction to PRISMA-CI extension statement and checklist systematic reviews on complex interventions / 中华流行病学杂志

Comprehensive interventions have been widely used in health system, public health, education and communities and have become increasingly focus of systematic reviews. There have been many reporting guidelines about systematic reviews, but they do not take the features of comprehensive interventions in medical area into consideration. As a result, PRISMA-CI has been developed as an extension of PRISMA, which adds or modifies the essential items of PRISMA. This paper introduces the items of PRISMA-CI and explains the items with an example to help authors, publishers, and readers understand PRISMA-CI and use it in systematic reviews on comprehensive interventions. As it become more and more popular with comprehensive interventions, PRISMA-CI will provide important structure and guidance for its systematic review and Meta-analysis.

Reporting characteristics of case reports of acupuncture therapy with CARE guidelines / 中国结合医学杂志

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the reporting characteristics of case reports of acupuncture therapy with CAse Report (CARE) guidelines, and to explore the applicability of the guidelines for these case reports.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Case reports published from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2013, were identified by searching PubMed and the China Biomedicine Database by using MeSH terms. Screening and data extraction of case reports were conducted by two independent researchers. Assessments based on CARE guidelines and data analysis were conducted by using Excel 2003 and RevMan 5.0.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A total of 61 case reports published in 19 journals were identified, which involved 16 major types of diseases. Fifteen (24.6%) case reports declared no conflict of interests, and 5 (8.2%) reported funding sources. None of these case reports met all items of CARE guidelines, and only 6 subordinate items were fully reported among 50% of the case reports. Subgroup analysis indicated that case reports published in English or those that did not have competing interests had higher reporting quality.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The reporting quality of case reports of acupuncture therapy is rather low. The reason might be a lack of awareness among authors and the poor dissemination of information regarding CARE guidelines in China. More evaluation studies are needed to promote and improve adherence to CARE guidelines. Moreover, an extended version of CARE guidelines should be developed for cases reports of special interventions such as acupuncture or adverse events caused by interventions.</p>

Registration and Reporting Guidelines for Clinical Trials / 대한내과학회지

Selective outcome reporting is a major problem because it has a negative impact on our scientific knowledge and is unethical as it involves research on human subjects. And inadequate quality of trials may distort the results from systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Thus, Clinical medicine tries to solve the problem of trials by making public registration before patient enrollment mandatory and encouraging to report the research outcomes by a specific guidelines. In the past few years, the registration of clinical trials and the reporting system has become routine, supported by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. In Korea, the clinical research registry named 'Clinical Research Information Service (CRiS)' was recently established and became a data provider as a primary registry to the World Health Organization (WHO) International Clinical Trial Registry Platform search portal. To expand the registration system and to operate them successfully and comprehensively, active participations of researchers as well as the government supports are required.
