The treatment of traumatized young teeth requires special attention due to the presence of open apex and thin dentine walls, preventing conventional endodontic treatment. Therefore, it is necessary perform a procedure to induce formation of mineralized barrier with the aid of a biocompatible materials such as calcium hydroxide and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). The aim of this study is report a case wich it was decided to perform apexification with calcium hydroxide for ten months, and after confirmation of the existence a barrier, held filling with apical plug of MTA and gutta percha. The apexification is a technique of high success rate, so devoted to the process of incomplete root formation.

Résumé

The dental gemination is a morphological alteration that can occur during the development of the dental germ, resulting in a total or partial formation of two teeth which are not completely separate. The aim of this work was to relate an unusual case of gemination by the periapical radiography of superior central incisive in the permanent dentition.

Odontodysplasia is a relatively uncommon condition that can affect both primary and permanent dentition. It is characterized by defective formation of both enamel and dentin, with enlarged pulp chambers and root canals with open apices. It is usually a localised condition where one or few teeth may be involved. Sometimes, an entire quadrant or more than one quadrant may be involved but generalized involvement is extremely rare. An interesting case of a generalized odontodysplasia affecting both primary and permanent dentition in an eight year old girl is presented here.

Résumé

An eleven year old girl reported to J. S. S. Dental College with spontaneous pain in the left mandibular region. On examination, left mandibular second premolar was found to be hypoplastic and grossly destroyed. On radiographic evaluation, an uncommon variation of bifurcation at the apical one third of the root was seen while the contralateral tooth was normal. Treatment planning included extraction of the tooth and evaluation of the morphodifferentiation which showed a webbed appearance in the bifurcated root contrary to the radiographic finding. This webbed appearance could be due to hypomineralisation due to trauma to the developing roots from the infection of its predecessors.
