Hydatidosis is an endemic zoonosis in our country. It presents in most cases as hepatic or pulmonary cyst, being the psoas muscle an uncommon location of hydatid cyst. The authors present a case of hydatid cyst developed in the psoas muscle, treated with total resection and escolicidal agent injection using an extraperitoneal approach.

Résumé

We report two patients with hydatid cyst of the right psoas muscle who presented with lower back pain and a palpable mass on the right side. The diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography [CT] in both patients and by positive hydatid serology in one case. Intervention consisted of a pericystectomy in both cases. After a follow-up of 24 and 30 months, respectively, the hydatid serology is negative in both patients and the findings on control CT are normal. Based on these two cases and a review of the literature the authors discuss the diagnosis and treatment of this rare entity

Résumé

Inspite of the endemic nature of the hydatic disease in Morocco, some localizations are unusual, the one of the psoatic muscle is rare. The authors report 5 cases and stress the diagnostic difficulties of this localization. The extraperitioneal surgical way is preferred whenever the lesion is isolated. The organs of the proximity, essentielly composed of vessels and nerves make the complete perikystectomy dangerous and incite to a partial perikystectomy.
