Some studies on gastrointestinal parasites infecting deer [Dorcas gazelles] in matrouh governorate

In this study, fecal samples were collected directly after defecation from living Egyptian deer, Dorcas gazelles. Twenty-eight out of 63 fecal samples harbored gastrointestinal nematode eggs. The positive fecal samples were cultured to collect the infective third stage larvae [L3] for taxonomic identification. They were Trichostrongylus colubriformis, Ostertagia ostertatgi and Oesophagostomum venulosum

Performance of serodiagnosis in sheep infested with or vaccinated against some species of Trichostrongylidae worms using staphylococcus aureus protein A Cowan I strain

A trial on serodiagnosis of Ostertagia infection in sheep by indirect hemagglutination technique with addition of Staphylococcus aureus protein A Cowan I strain [SpA] was carried out. The data revealed that the addition of SpA increased the sensitivity of IHA technique by elevating the antibody titer in infected and immunized sheep. Also, the use of SpA in rapid slide agglutination in helminth diagnosis of pure Ostertagia and Haemonchus and mixed Trichostrongylus infection was successful, giving a result of 100% in the first, 90% in the second and 70% among the third case

Ocorrência do Ostertagia ostertagi em bovinos no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil / Occurrence of Ostertagia ostertagi in cattle from the state of Minas Gerais, Brasil

O. ostertagi é um nematóide pertencente à família Trichostrongylidae parasito de abomaso de ruminantes. Em Minas Gerais foi relatado pela primeira vez por CARVALHO (1940), em bovinos, no município de Viçosa, na regiäo da Mata e em outros municípios da regiäo Sul. A partir de entäo, näo houve mais registro de ocorréncia do parasito em bovinos no Estado (COSTA et al, 1986). No presente trabalho necropsiaram-se nove bezerros com, aproximadamente, 12 meses de idade, procedentes do município de Carandaí, no ragiäo de Campos das Vertentes, MG. Cinco animais apresentaram parasitados por O. ostertagi, é o número de parasitos encontrados variou de 116 a 2154 por animal. Sendo Ostertagia um parasito altamente patogênico para bovinos, é necessário que se faça estudo epidemiológico sobre esse helminto na regiäo, para que se conheça melhor a dinâmica de sua infecçäo e, posteriormente um controle e ficaz
