Phytochemical and biological study of Eranthemum nervosum [Vahl] R. BR., cultivated in Egypt

Fractionation and purification of the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Eranthemum nervosum [Vahl] R. Br. [Acanthaceae] cultivated in Egypt yielded eleven compounds named: beta- amyrin [1], alpha-amyrin [2], Lupeol [3], beta-sitosterol [4], Apigenin [5], Kaempferol [6], beta-sitosterol 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside [7], Benzoic acid [8], Kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside [9], Syringin [10] and Apigenin 7-O-neohesperidoside [11]. Identification of these compounds has been established by physical, chemical and spectral data as well as comparison with authentic samples. Phytochemical and biological investigation of Monsonia Nivea decne.webb. growing in Egypt

Six compounds were isolated from Monsonia nivea Decne. Webb. [Geraniaceae] growing in Egypt. The compounds are sterol, triterpene and flavonoid in nature. These compounds were identified as alpha-amyrin, beta-sitosterol, ursolic acid, apigenin-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, quercetin-3-O-glucoside and rutin. The structures of the isolated compounds were confirmed by different spectroscopic methods. The anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial and the DNA-binding activities [as an indicator for anti-tumor activity] were carried out for the extracts and some pure compounds

Management of chronic hepatitis B with New Livfit in end stage renal disease.

New Livfit (NLF) is a standardized, poly-herbal formulation that has been found useful in the management of hepatitis. The aim of this placebo-controlled study was to evaluate its usefulness against hepatitis B virus in the patients of end stage renal disease (ESRD). Patients were regularly evaluated at 6, 12, 24 and 36 weeks of therapy. With 36 weeks of treatment of NLF, there was rapid clearing of HBV-DNA in a significant number of patients. Significant seroconversion of the other markers of hepatitis B and restoration of the raised levels of ALT and AST was observed. The study suggests the potential usefulness of NLF in the control of HBV infection in the patients of ESRD prior to renal transplant.
