Résumé

The year 2020 is an extremely unusual year. The world lost more than one million lives due to the attack of COVID-19. Economic production has been greatly reduced, and daily activities are largely restricted. Luckily the work of Chinese Journal of Traumatology (CJTEE) has not been adversely affected. 2020 is a harvest year for the journal, which (1) was included in the high-quality academic journals by China Association for Science and Technology; (2) cover of each issue is newly designed; (3) submission increased by about 60% with more countries and regions covered; (4) usage in the ScienceDirect database exceeded a million; (5) the CiteScore rises to more than 2.0 the first time. This study reviewed the articles published in the year 2020 by CJTEE.

The Brazilian scientific community in Psychology has grown, in the last decades, in the number of researchers, as well as in research subareas, graduate programs, and in organizational and representational processses. Behavior analysis faced, in the same period, a notable advancement, largely promoted by events and publications by the Brazilian Association for Psychotherapy and Behavioral Medicine. Such a progress, however, has not been one in the field of organization and representation of the Brazilian scientific community in behavior analysis, which remains a challenge.

The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS)/Organización para Estudios Tropicales (OET) has evolved in many ways since its founding in 1963 as a non-profit consortium offering graduate courses and facilitating research in tropical ecology in Costa Rica. By 2002, its international membership included about 65 institutions, including four from Costa Rica. It had developed three Costa Rican field stations (La Selva, Las Cruces, and Palo Verde) with excellent facilities for teaching and research, and it was constructing a new Costa Rican office at the University of Costa Rica. Combinations of internal and external pressures influenced OTS to develop in new directions in the 1980s and 1990s. It became more diversified and more concerned with applied science in its traditional areas of graduate education and research facilitation. The Organization also evolved into new niches: more applied biology, professional education, environmental education and policy, conservation efforts, and an expanded geographic distribution to other Latin American countries. OTS was composed of changing combinations of people (Boards, members, staff) with evolving and competing priorities for limited financial resources. External environmental changes also shaped OTS's evolution. New problems of increased tropical deforestation, the emergence of the biodiversity "crisis" and conservation biology, global climate change, and calls for sustainable development affected OTS constituents and funding priorities of governments and foundations. Both internal and external pressures have in some cases demanded for OTS to improve its relationship with: Costa Rican biologists and their institutions, the Costa Rican government, and Costa Ricans living around the three OTS field stations.

Résumé

A recent law project pretended to improve the number and distribution of clinical specialists throughout the country. Several Medical Scientific Societies felt that the diagnosis and the treatment proposed for the problem were erroneous. In Chile, there is no such lack of specialists but, unfortunately, they are badly distributed and any solution should include their better geographical distribution. This was the beginning of a common action by 30 Medical Scientific Societies, which realized that they have several problems in common, deciding to create an entity to face them: the Chilean Association of Medical Scientific Societies (ASOCIMED). This association was formed last August. In a few months of work it has studied its bylaws to be submitted for aproval to the Member Societies. Also it has started to study, together with the Ministry of Public Health, the needs, number and distribution of specialists in the country and important information should be gathered from this study. ASOCIMED is already representing Medical Scientific Societies in the National Corporation for Medical Certification (CONACEM), together with the National Academy of Medicine is creating a National Award of Medicine and with the Health Insurance Companies is studying a way to face high cost diseases. During its short existence, ASOCIMED has faced a diversity of different issues and it seems reasonable to believe that it will play an important role in Chilean Medicine

Résumé

Health for all is facing many challenges at present, such as increasing global population, the widening gap between the rich and poor and the inequitable distribution of health services. The World Health Organization has always recognized that the achievement of health for all required the input of many partners, not simply the ministries of health. This paper outlines the role academia and professional associations can play in supporting health for all. It discusses, in particular, the areas of intervention, such as training human resources, planning and setting health priorities and strategies and conducting health systems research
