RESUMO

This study was conducted on 400 women with age ranged 20-54 years. Data were collected by questionnaire information sheet and health promoting lifestyle profile [HPLP] through utilizing structured interview technique. It was found that there was a significant differences of the overall total scores of the [HPLP] between the two groups. The total score for each component of the working was higher than the housewives group and statistical significant difference was proved for nutrition, interpersonal support and stress management components. Although there were no statistical differences in the total scores of self-actualization, health responsibility and exercise components; there were significant differences within some items of each component. By multivariate analysis, the modifiers [family income and family size] had direct effect in the working group, however, in the housewives group none of the modifiers had a direct effect on the overall total scores of HPLP. The study suggested that nurses and other health professionals should design health promoting programs to change behaviors based on women awareness of current practices of health behavior
