RESUMO

BACKGROUND@#The only lung volume that can be measured reliably in infants is the functional residual capacity (FRC). Published reference values vary, thus, there is a need to determine values for healthy infants using the available equipment.@*OBJECTIVES@#To determine the normal values of FRC in healthy infants using the baby body plethysmogram (CareFusion) and to determine the correlation between FRC and weight, length, age, and gender.@*METHODS@#FRC was measured using the CareFusion MasterScreen baby body plethysmogram in 62 healthy infants aged 1-24 months old. FRC was measured after sedation with Chloral hydrate at 50 mg/kg body weight. Three measurements were performed from which the mean (SD) FRC was calculated. To depict the change in FRC with growth, regression analysis between FRC as dependent variable and weight, length, and age as independent variables was done.@*CONCLUSION@#The FRC values obtained in this study is 24.56 ml/kg (4.41). There is a direct correlation of FRC with age, weight, and length. The result of this study was comparable to other studies and may be used as a reference value for healthy infants.

RESUMO

Identification of disorders frequency in adolescence stage has implications for child and adolescence psychiatry. This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of DSM-IV behavioral disorders among 12-17 years pupiles of Golestan province during 2010-11. In a cross-sectional descriptive study, 1500 pupiles [715 boys and 785 girls] from schools of Golestan State were selected through stratified random sampling method. Demographical questionnaire and DSM-IV based behavioral disorders of Achenbach youth self-report scale [YSR] were recorded. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistic and nonparametric test of Chi-Square and calculation of Odd Ratio and 95%CI with PASW software. Prevalence of behavioral disorders among the sample population 12-14 years, 15-17 years and as total were 5.47%, 5.05% and 5.27%, respectively. Prevalence of somatic disorders and anxiety were 5.8% and 4.7%, respectively. Moreover, the difference between prevalence of conduct and ADHD disorders in males and females were significant [P<0.05]. Odd ratio for both genders in prediction of conduct disorder and ADHD and for the scholastic grade in prediction of affective and anxious disorders was significant [P<0.05]. Total prevalence of behavioral disorders among the pupiles of Golestan province in Iran was 5.27%, which is approximately similar to the other studies in Iran

RESUMO

Human beings tendency to religion is coincidental with the man's history. Experimental researches show no correlation among findings related to the relationship of religions orientation and mental health. The main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the religious orientation and anxiety and depression of university students. The main method in this study was descriptive-analytic. The subject was 571 students in Islamic Azad University, Azad Shahr branch, who were chosen randomly. The participants, were 324 male and 247 female students with the average age of 22 years. They answered to the researcher-made questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory [BDI], religious attitude scale and Spilberger State-Trait Inventory [STAI]. Data were analyzed through SPSS software with descriptive-deductive base, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Data analysis indicated the high negative correlation between the religious orientation and anxiety and depression of university students. With the increase of the student's religious orientation, their depression and anxiety decreased [P < 0.05]. The study indicates the close relationship between the religious orientation and anxiety and depression of university students. Reinforcement and assimilation of religious values in students can lead them toward increased mental health
