RESUMO
This is a retrospective study of 102 endoscopies performed over a period of one year in patients admitted with proven or suspected upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage. During this period a total of 396 endoscopies were performed. Duodenal ulcer were the commonest lesion found in 34% followed by Gastric ulcer in 23%, and oesophageal varices in 21% of patients. Among predisposing factors, apart from smoking, drugs are becoming increasingly common as a factor in gastric and oesophageal ulcers. We conclude that Duodenal Ulcer is still a common cause of upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage
