Intracranial compliance in severe head injuries

The response of ventricular fluid pressure [VFP] to 1 ml of CSF volume was studied in 15 patients with severe closed head injury. This test has been termed as the volume/pressure response [V/PR] or the brain compliance. There is a positive correlation between the height of the resting level of VFP, the VPR and the final outcome. Study of the pressure response to volume changes yields valuable clinical information additional to that obtained from routine VFP monitoring

Surgical aspects in spontaneous cerebral haemorrhage

Twenty-two patients were admitted to Riyadh Central Hospital with the clinical diagnosis of cerebrovascular accident [CVA]. All cases were presented to the hospital with disturbed conscious level. CT scanning was performed to all of them and the results were very helpful in their management. Surgery was performed for 54.5% of the cases with very good results. Clinical and operative data were documented. The beneficial line of treatment and the indications of surgery were discussed
