RESUMO

Forty male patients with chronic duodenal ulcer were included in this study [twenty patients with actively bleed duodenal ulcer [cases] and twenty patients with non-bleed duodenal ulcer [control group]]. The fibrinolytic activity of gastric juice and the trypsin activity of duodenal fluid were determined for all patients, both were significantly increased in patients with duodenal ulcer bleeding than those without. It was concluded that the increased activity of local fibrinolysis and local trypsin may contribute the prolonged bleeding or re-bleeding in patients with actively bleed duodenal ulcer and it was suggested that drugs or procedures that decrease the activity of local fibrinolysis or local trypsin may minimize the risk of prolonged bleeding or re-bleeding in such patients
